The Beginning of Air Traffic Control
Due to the increase of planes in the sky, Archie League took a wheelbarrow and modified it so he can use it to help pilots on the ground. He has signals so he can tell pilots when to hold or go. -
Advancements in ATC
The year after Leagues wheelbarrow, radio technology was introduced to Air Traffic Control, and airliners were now implemented with this new technology. -
Going Further
A few years later, Air Traffic Controllers are now able to go further than airports, and then along entire air routes, thanks to maps and radar technology -
Major Changes
World War 2 came along, and brought major changes to Air Travel. War time meant more freight needed to be delivered, and more passengers needed to get somewhere, which meant more business for the Aviation Industry. Radar technology also got an upgrade during WWII, revolutionizing Air Traffic Control -
The Jet Age
After WWII, the introduction of Jet planes brought new innovation and excitement to the aviation industry. Computers were also changing and the Federal Aviation Administration developed complex systems with them. -
Turbulence in Aviation
In 1981, there were equipment outages, and workers were suffering from stress mainly due to long hours. Because of the long work with obsolete technology, Air Traffic Controllers went on strike, and the strikers main demands were for shorter hours. -
Technological Advances. Challenges Remained.
Computers in Air Traffic Control were getting better, but challenges still remain as there was congestion in airports. However, the Aviation Industry has seemed to get back on track due to improvements with technology. -
A skilled workforce to this day
From 2002 to today, Air Traffic Control remains to be a very skilled workforce, preventing planes from crashing into each other. And to this day, this career is still improving, and passengers and Air Freights are getting to where they need to go.
