Siri was infact not created by apple but it was built by the SRI international artificial intelligence center -

In 2010 the siri app was made available to purchase from the app store, rather than the helpful voice of siri being pre-installed onto iphones.

This new feature became a helpful tool when it came to encouraging consumers to upgrade to apples more modern products -

Now every apple product would have the siri feature installed to the newest apple creations -
SIRI slows down innovation whilst other big brands overtake artificial intelligence industry
Since 2012 other companies like samsung and google, just to name a few, jumped on the AI band wagon and integrated similar systems into their companies newest communication technologies. -

Apple is playing catchup.... says the Wall Street Journal
As the other companies overpower the ever growing AI industry with better technology, Apples beloved Siri becomes overshadowed. D, Gallahgar (2017) wrote an article in the popular Wall Street Journal stating that 'Today, Apple is playing catch-up in a product category it invented, increasing worries about whether the technology giant has lost some of its innovation edge.'
