A NASA researcher named Jack Cover had begun researching the Taser in 1969. It took him till 1974 for him to complete his device. He named it Taser loosely after his favourite book as a child named Tom Swift And his Electric Rifle. -

At the time radio’s were sold a $450-800. The very first public station called the KDKA was located in Pittsburgh. Many families owed their very own radio. -
Television
The first electronic television was made by Philo Taylor Farnsworth and he later patented his invention. It would go under numerous redesigns and modifications to get to the creation we know today. -
Electric Guitar
The first electric guitar was made by George Beachamp. The reason it was made is because we needed a louder guitar so it could be heard with all of the louder instruments. -
Radar
Robert Watson-Watt was looking for a way to reliably detect and avoid approaching thunderstorms. When a war broke out in England the British had a system covering the English and north sea coasts. -
Helicopter
The helicopter was invented in the 1930s by Igor Sikorsky, Paul Cornu, and Arthur M. Young. In China around 320 AD the first “design” of a helicopter was made. It was a children's toy made from bamboo, feathers and string that was capable of flight. -
Microwave
When the microwave was first invented by Percy Spencer it was far too big and expensive to be used in most homes. It took all the way until 1967 for Amana Corporation to make a countertop microwave. -
Vinyle Records
Vinyl records were a huge hit when made. Finally people could listen to the music they wanted to listen to instead of what was on the radio as that was the only way to listen to music in your home. -
Bar Code
It was invented by Norman Joseph Woodland and was based on morse code. However it existed in the 1950’s it took over 20 years for it to become widely used. -
Credit Card
The first credit card was called a Diners Club card and was invented by Frank McNarmara. He thought of it when he was dining but forgot his money. This invention would lead us to how we pay for almost everything. -
Weather Satellite
The first weather satellite was sent into space on April 1, by NASA. It had 2 television cameras and 2 video recorders. It was the first time that human civilization was able to see clouds form from space. -
Industrial Robot
The first industrial robot was made by Joseph Fredrick Engelberger who would later be known as the “father of robotics”. US car companies were looking for ways to automate manufacturing cars when it was made. -
Microprocessor
The first microprocessor was created leading to the microcomputer to be made shortly after. Following the microcomputer was the home computer, a computer that was affordable and a device that the regular person could understand how to use. Which led to the computers we use today. -
Floppy Disk
IBM created the floppy disk which allowed people to load software updates onto their computers. The floppy disk also allowed people to share data between computers so if you could work on a research paper at school AND at home now. This invention skyrocketed the development of computers and is the reason why we have modern computers today. -
CD
In 1982 the first compact CD was made allowing for never seen before visuals and audio to be stored on them. It became the preferred format for storage, gaming and music. -
NES
The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES for short) was the first mainstream console. It had many popular games on it at the time solidifying Nintendo as the number 1 gaming company at the time and led them to pave the foundation for the future of gaming. -
Photoshop
Photoshop was made by the brothers Thomas and John Knoll. They were developing it in the 80s and finished in 1990. Adobe had invested in them which led to many other photo editing softwares to be made. -
Game Boy
The Game Boy was the first portable gaming device. You were able to take it anywhere you wanted. It was released with Tetris and Super Mario Land which made it very popular making companies strive for similar technology. -
Nokia Cell Phone
The Nokia was the first mass produced small cell phone that supported the newly discovered text message technology. You were now able to text people which is now a staple in any modern phone. -
USB Flash Drive
The USB flash drive was made by Trek Company and at first only had 256 megabytes of storage. Now they have 256 GB of storage and are the reason people wanted portable personal storage. -
iPhone
The original iPhone was released in 2007 and of course made by Apple. This was Apple’s first in the line of iPhones that would make apple famous in the phone industry. -
Deepfakes
Deep fakes are AI generated videos/images that show people saying/doing things that they never actually said/did. This has led to technology that completely makes people up and can look very real. -
Tesla Self-Driving
Tesla released its self-driving beta in October 2020 to a couple of early testers. Currently the self driving is able to drive on its own in almost all situations but still requires the driver to be paying attention.
