The first responsible self-government of NSW, VIC and Tasmania was first established on the 6 of June 1856 with Sir Stuart Alexander Donaldson appointed by Governor Sir William Denison as its first Colonial Secretary (Which is now known as Premier). -
South Australia's First Responsible Government
After 1857 South Australia had an elected parliament responsible only to South Australians. Before 1857 it was the British council that made laws for South Australians. -
Queensland's Government elections were Held
In 1860 Queensland had an elected independent parliament.On the 22 May Robert George Wyndham became the first premier of Queensland. -
Premier of NSW Warns Colonies to federate
Sir Henry Parkes premier of NSW urges colonies to federate. Persuaded by Parkes speech the colonies met in Melbourne in February 1890 to discuss about federation. -

There was a drought in 1890 which led to economical depression where colonies started to lose interest in federation. -
SA Women Votes
In 1895 just before Federation South Australia granted women the right to vote. This was a significant event that soon WA, NSW, TAS, Eventually every woman in Australia go the right to vote in 1908. -
Special premiers conference
A special Premiers conference was held to discuss on the formation of federation. All the premiers unanismouly voted for federation to happen. -
Second Peoples Conference
A second peoples conference was held in Bathurst, New South Wales to discuss on the formation of federation. This a renewal call for the federation convention. -
Second National Australasian Convention
During the second national Australasian convention all colonies agrees to a constitutution -
Referendums held in various colonies
Referendums to approve the constitution were supported by Victoria South Australia and Tasmania. New South Wales did not support it. -
Secret Conference
The Premiers of the five colonies made a secret conference in Melbourne to discuss the changes in the constitution. All the concerns of NSW and QLD were agreed to in this conference. This was endorsed by the five colonies. -

Significant Events In 1900
In March a group of people travelled to London to present the constitution act to the British parliament. On 5 July the British Parliament Agrees to Constitution act of Australia On 9 July Queen Victoria signs the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act. On 31 July, overwhelming people of Western Australia votes for the constitution act. -

Federation
On 1 January the Commonwealth of Australia was announced in Centennial Park, Sydney. On 29 and 30 March, the first Commonwealth elections are held to form the first federal government. On 9 May the Duke of Cornwall and York (later King George V) opens the first Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia in the Exhibition Building in Melbourne.
