The Louisiana purchase is a land mass sold to the United States from Napolean in 1803. The US paid fifty million dollars for this land that doubled the size of the country at the time. -
The end of slave trade
The slave trade act made it illegal to buy or sell slaves. Since it did not end slavery entirely, it took twenty years to completely abolish slavery. -
The Embargo Act
The Embargo act prohibited trade with any European nation. It was originally meant to punish Britain but it ended up hurting US merchants. -

The non-intercourse act replaced the embargo act but was mostly ineffective and contributed to the start of the war of 1812. -

The war of 1812 was between the United States and Great Britain. During the war, both sides did things which made the other side mad like when Britain stopped US ships from deporting. Eventually, the fighting stopped and both sides signed the Treaty of Ghent. -

The treaty of Ghent ended the war of 1812. Both sides were forced to return conquered land and it opened up the great lakes. -
Andrew Jackson invades Florida
Jackson invaded Florida to take control of the land. He moved or killed all the Native Americans there. This attack started the Seminole wars. -
James Monroe elected
James Monroe was elected president in 1817. He was the 5th president, a democratic republican, and he served 1817-1825 -
Adams-Onis Treaty
The Adams Onis treaty(also known as the continental treaty) was a triumph of American diplomacy. It settled the border between the US and Spain. -
Missouri Compromise
When Missouri applied to be in the Union, it sparked some controversy because there was 11 slave states and 11 free states and adding another state would throw it off balance. So, Missouri entered as a slave state and Maine entered as a free state. To resolve this conflict in the future, all new states above 36 degrees latitude, must enter as a free state. -
Monroe gets re-elected
James Monroe got elected for a second term during the era of good feelings. He successfully ran unopposed. -
The Monroe Doctrine
The Monroe doctrine was a statement saying that the US would not interfere with any European colonies already in the Americas if European countries don't interfere with the western hemisphere. -

The American system was a system of ideas for the country. Henry Clay's ideas for the US were to boost the economy, build another national bank, and build new means of transportation. -
