First began in 1830 when European and American women argued for the right to divorce and own property. This was not very successful and women in Britain could only own some property by 1870. During this time new methods allowed for the cheap production of steel. New methods allowed for the shaping of steel for lighter, smaller, and faster machines and engines as well as railways, ships, and weapons. Steel’s better qualities and ability to be produced easily and cheaply caused it to quickly replace iron. -

Universal Education
Education at first was only for the elite and wealthier middle class. But later most Western governments began to set up state-financed primary schools. Ages 6-12 were required to attend school. -
Better Pay Less Hours
Since industrial production was growing vary fast people had more money to spend. After 1870 people wages increased. Also the prices on goods were lowered because transportation did not cost as much. -
First electrical generators of electrical current
when they were able to provide a great amount of energy it was easily converted into different forms and moved through wires. Which then helped create the first electricals of electrical current. -

Women's Times Changes
In 1882, Europe’s first birth control center was founded in Amsterdam. The use of birth control caused the number of children born to the average women to decline. This key change, and an improvement in the economic system, allowed women to have more time for individual childcare and domestic leisure. -

The internal combustion engine was invented by a German engineer, Gottlieb Daimler in 1885. This led to him and another engineer, Wilhelm Maybach, to produce an automobile powered by gasoline. -
Moving from rural societies to urban
By 1890 population in urban area grew because people started to come from rural areas. Citys grew fast because they had better living conditions and people could survive their longer. -

Mass leisure during this time underwent a major change. The original, community participated, fairs and festivals were soon replaced by entertainment standardized for large passive audiences. The two most popular forms of leisure during this time were amusement parks and sports teams.
