The Elizabethan Era is an epoch in the Renaissance and in English history. The era got its name from the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth I. The era was charaterised by its poetry, theatre and literature. -

William Shakespeare
Shakespeare was one of the world's most famous authors. He wrote tragedies, historical plays and comedies. He also wrote sonnets.
He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and he died there as well.
He was a member of Lord Chamberlain's Men, who owned the theatre Globe Theatre. He was married to Anne Hathaway, but very little is known about Shakespeare's private life. -
"Romeo and Juliet"
A play about forbidden love between the children of the rivaling families. It takes place in Verona in Italy. In the end, they both commit suicide. Like most of the work in the Elizabethan Era, the play was inspired by Greece and Rome. -

A sonnet written by Shakespeare about his relationship to his mistress. It is written in an ironic tone. -
