The Exposition
The story starts with the main character, Tom Walker, walking in the dark woods near an old Indian fort. Walker meets a mysterious "black" man and the black man tries to make a deal with Walker for a life of riches. Walker returns home to his wife in which he does not care for, and she finds out about the deal. She proceeds to take all of the riches that Walker has and tries to make a deal with the black man, but she does not return. Walker finds her heart and liver near the old Indian fort. -

Rising Action
Tom Walker finds the black man again and Walker finally makes a deal with the black man that will make Walker very wealthy. Walker has to make a loan business and give the black man a certain percent of the money. Walker gets rich very quickly but sins over and over again for robbing the towns folk and making them poor. Walker proceeds to carry a Bible everywhere because he sins so much. -

Falling Action
Walker rides off on the horse into the woods; the direction of the of Indian fort. -

Resolution
A man said he heard the hoofs of the horse gallop over the road and into the swamp, but no one knows for sure what really happened to Tom Walker. It is known for sure though that Tom Walker never came back and learned his lesson with the black man. -

Climax
One day, Walker argues with a poor man because Walker took all of his money away, and this is the dialogue between the two. “You have made so much money out of me,” said the speculator.
Tom lost his patience and his piety. “The devil take me,” said he, “if I have made a farthing!” Directly after this, the black man appears and comes to take Walker away.
