After defeating McClellan's army, General Lee wanted to take advantage of their low morale Lee decided to take his army across the potomac to meet McClellan. The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day in American History.

Emancipation Proclamation
The Battle of Antietam Caused the Emancipation proclamation. The Emancipation proclamation said that all the slaved in the Confederate Sates of America were free. Although this didn't do much for the actual freedom of slaves, but it spread rumors throughout the confederate slaves and they had hope and started braking tools of other things that might make it hard for their master. Also, now African Americans in the Union army were fighting to end slavery. -
Battle Of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg started when A confident General Lee decided to Invade the north again. In the first day of the battle the union troops were forced back and into a fishhook position. They fortified themselves on a hill, maintaining the hooked position. On the second day, Lee ordered Confederate troops to attack the left flank. On the third and final day, Pickets charge occurred. It failed and the Union army won. This battle marked the beginning of the end for the Civil War. -
General Sherman's March to the Sea
The march was caused when Grant waged total war and recruited William Sherman into the Union cause. Sherman destroyed everything in his path, burning cities to the ground, stealing livestock, harassing civilians, and corrupting the food supply. The cause of this is aster the march the confederate's food supply was low and basically everything supporting the Confederates was destroyed. -
Lee's Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
Lee surrenders after being outnumbered at the Appomattox Courthouse. After they surrender, Grant says that the soldiers must turn over their guns, but the officers may keep their pistol and calvary can keep their horses. The soldiers were to go back home, undisturbed by the U.S. army. The effect was now the Civil War is over. Yay.
