Exposition
Stroy starts off in the rural side of Georgia. The main character, Celie, is an African American 14 year old girl that is abused by her 'Pa'. Celie is forced to remain quiet on her abuse and is told to only tell God, so she does as she writes him letters. She has a strong relationship with her sister Nettie. Celie is married off to protect Nettie. Nettie comes to live with Celie and her husband, but he too is very abusive and disrespectful. -
Conflict
Out of bitterness and after he did not get his way with Nettie, Mr._ kicks Nettie out of his house. This is quite devestating for both Nettie and Celie because they are forced to be seperated and not comunicate. Celie finds herself in a dark placebecause she does not know anything on her sister's well-being. Mr._ keeps hidden all the letter that Nettie wrote to Celie as a punishment for both. Celie is depressed and continues to open up to the only person she can, God. -
Rising Action
A woman, Shug, that Mr._ is in love with comes to stay with Celie and him. During this time Celie and Shug grow very close and they share several feeling with each other. Celie feels that she found someone to talk to and also finds clarity in her sexuality. On a day alone they find letters from Nettie that Mr._ had hidden. Celie was glad to see that her sister remembered ofher but completely shocked by the evil doings of Mr._; it enrages her deeply. -
Turning Point
With Shug's encouragement Celie confronts Mr._ on the letters. She finally speaks her mind and does not hold back on anything. She moves with Shug to Tennessee and starts to see a change in her life. She is itaught how to mak pants and even starts her small own business with them. This freedom strengthens her independence and gives her the boost/confidence that she needed. During the time there she read a letter from Nettie explaining how their Pa was not their real father. -
Falling Action
Celie gets a notice that her 'Pa' passed away and the house he owned belongs to her and Nettie. She moved to the house and began to make ither own. At that time she also began to spend more time with Mr._ and this time is was different. They become good friends. Nettie is with the family that adopted Celie's kids with Pa and she is on her way to Celie, but she gets a letter saying their ship had sunk at sea. Although the letter was real Celie had hopes that they were alive and well. -
Resolution
Celie found herself with plenty of materialistic things but still felt empty without her sister. But shortly after Nettie arrived with her new husband and kids that were Celie's. Celie is extremely happy to have finally reunited with her. She found comfort in all the love that she was now surrounded with and was glad to find that the years of abuse were finished.
