The Russian Revolution
Following WWI many Russian citizens were not happy. There were hints of a Capitalist country, a war broke out between the Bolshevik party and the Mensheviks. Later problems raised when the U.S. sent troops and relief to assist the Mensheviks who had a more Democratic view. The thought of a Capitalist government was soon crushed by the likes of Vladimir Lenin and his communistic beliefs. -
The Truman Doctrine
The president requested economic and circumstantial aid to help two countries in Europe that were in danger of falling to communism. The two countries were Greece and Turkey who were being pressured to choose communism due to there economic downfall during WWII. -
NATO
NATO was an intergovernmental military alliance between several North American European countries. This kept peace between countries after the conclusion of the war. -
The Potsdam Conference
The Potsdam Conference was a meeting of the three allied winners of WWII. Many matters were discussed, such as the control of defeated Germany, post war boundaries and securing lasting peace for the world. The U.S. and Britain were asking nothing other than a secure plan to ensure peace of the entire earth, yet Stallin wanted more territory simply to keep the Germans as far from Russia as possible. -
The Atomic Bomb
During the time of the Potsdam Conference, the Manhattan Project was in full swing as they tested the atomic bomb in the New Mexico desert. With President Truman attempting to save American lives and finish the war as quickly as possible, he used two different Atomic bombs on two Japanese civilian cities killing hundreds of thousands. Russian leader Joseph Stalin and the soviets had still not figured out how to make an Atomic Bomb making them seam like the little brother of the situation. -

The iron curtain was a "boundary" layed across Europe that kept communism at bay from western Europe. The allied nations sent aid to countries that were torn apart by the war. With The soviet union breathing down the backs of many countries the aid was vital. -

The Molotov Plan was thought up by the Soviet Union, trying to turn eastern European countries into Communist countries in the early cold war. -

The Marshall Plan was an american aid bill that was created to send over $13 Billion to the countries that were in danger of falling to communism. -

The Berlin Blockade was simply because of how much the Russians hated the Germans. When post war Germany was divided into four sectors the Russians took the opportunity to distance themselves and try and delay the evolution of Germany the best they could. -

Post war Germany was divided into four different sections and given territory to four different countries. The Soviets were very scared of Germany so they pushed them back as far as possible. -

The Soviet Union was catching up in the nuclear race when the tested the first nuclear bomb in 1949. This was a turning point during the cold war because the Americans didn't expect them to have one so soon. -

Joseph McCarthy was an american politician who began interviewing army officials for being to light on communism. He fed on the fact that Americans feared communism and used that to scare them. -
