McCarthy would accuse fellow politicians or anyone involved in the government of being communist. Many actually did admit to being part of the communist party. McCarthy allowed them to "redeem" themselves by exposing fellow memers of the comunist party. -

This date marks the beginning of U.S. involvement. The conflict was between South Korea and communist North Korea. Naturally, The U.S. backed South Korea as a way to thwart the Soviets. -

The First episode of "I Love Lucy" aired today. "I Love Lucy" would prove to be the most watched T.V. series during the Cold War. The show even passed up "Andy Griffith". It still airs today, and is considered one of America's most beloved series. -

Ceasefire in the Korean War, marking the end
A ceasefire betweeh the United States and North Korea ends the Korean War. Fighting continued in some places. However, everyone stopped when an armistice was signed. -
CIA Overthrows Communist Government in Guatemala
The CIA relieved Guatemala of all its Communist influences, Guatemalan leader, Arbenz, would meet secretly with members of the communist party to discuss land and social reforms. As soon as they caught wnd of this, the CIA sprung into action. We knew that we couldn't let the Soviets gain a stronghold on our side of the ocean. Not only did we demolish this stronghold, but we proved ourselves once again to the Soviets. -
South East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO)
The SEATO was an organization of Austrailia, France, Great Britain, New Zeland, Pakistan, The Phillipines, Thailand, and the U.S. It was created to block communist gains in southeast Asia. It was considered a failure due to internal arguments and conflict. However, many of its educational and cultural programs are still active today. -
The Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a treaty between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. They followed the "attack against one is an attack against all" mentality. They were the alter-ego of NATO, being that they were communist in defense against non-communist resistance. Suprisingly, they thought that we were the ones trying to take over the world, where we thought the same about them. -
Beginning of the Vietnam War
A struggle between North and South Vietnam, North Vietnam was communist, and South was not. Naturally, we supported the non-communist side and offered full aid and support. We saw this as a huge oppurtunity to halt communism once again, and the war only strengthened our growing hate towards communism and the people involved. -
Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was arrested in Alabama for not giving her seat up to a white passenger. Rosa inspired the bis boycott, and a Supreme Court law against bs segregagtion. This is considered a huge event in the Civil Rights Movement, and paved a way for more acts to come
