GI Bill
Provided benefits to people who served in the armed forces in WWII. It didn't cause any tension but it caused veterans to have a easier time to settle in back in America and find a home and job. -
Truman Doctrine
It was to contain soviet threats and that rose tension with Soviet Union of course because they want to take over with communism and US doesn't want that. -
National Security Act
This reshaped the nation's major military and diplomatic institutions, only really caused social tensions. -
Marshall Plan
The US gave support and aid to Western Europe after the war. There wasn't much tension created because of this however Soviet Union doesn't want troops in their territory. -
Berlin Airlift
US, Britain, France, and Soviet Union split Germany and they split Berlin, the problem is Berlin is on the Soviet Union side. It rose tensions especially when the US started flying in supplies and trade because other countries had troubles and Soviet Union didn't want to share. These tensions were an effedct of spiting Germany. -
NATO
The National Atlantic Treaty Organization was a defense system for Western Europe and the United States. It created tension with the Warsaw Pact which was the Soviet Union version. -
Korean War
This war caused quite a bit of tension because North Korea who was supported by the Soviet Union invaded Southern Korea who was supported by the US. Eventually the war ended in a stalemate but highered tension in my opinion and made everyone on edge. -
Brinkmanship
It was used to persuade opposition in war to retreat. It created less tension and caused less war. Although leading into brinkmanship had high tensions. -
Warsaw Pact
It was kind of like a treaty of alliance or friendship. Caused tension with the US so they created NATO which caused a tension bowl with no bottom so tension was very high. -
Interstate Highway System
Used as a defense mechanism to travel across states faster instead of the constant driving through down towns. It didn't really create much tension, and it caused a bigger defense. -
Eisenhower Doctrine
It promised military or economic aid to Middle Eastern countries needing help in resisting communist aggression. It created more tension with the Soviet Union because they want to spread communism and we (the US) fears the spreading of communism. -
Sputnik
It was a series of Soviet Union satellites that were launched into space. This created a lot of tension because the US felt threatened that Soviet Union was smarter, above, or farther experienced in science. That effects US goals and made a Space Race just so we could try to be on top. Made more tension between Soviet Union and the United States. -
U-2 Incident
The US sent over a spy in an "invisible" plane that wasn't so invisible and got captured in Russia and kept. This made tensions with US and SU super high. Because of this it effected everybody making them paranoid that there are spies everywhere. -
Bay of Pigs
A very unsuccessful invasion to Cuba supported by the US caused tensions with Russia because they kept missiles and weapons there. Caused US to force Russia to take them back. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall being a communist idea to separate East and West. It created tension with Berlin and caused people to want to escape and made US fear because of the communistic idea. -
Nuclear Test Ban Treaty
Basically kept them from testing nuclear weapons above ground. I think it kept tensions level because it was for everybody not just one country.
