    The Venona Papers was a secret collaboration between the United States & the U.K intelligence agencies attempting to decode messages sent by the Soviet Union. This collaboration went on from the years 1943 through 1980.
  • The Iron Curtain

    The Iron Curtain
    The Iron curtain was a physical boundary dividing Europe into two separate areas from the end of World War 2 in 1945 to the end of the Cold War in 1991. This boundary isolated the people of Eastern Europe and restricting their ability to travel outside the region. It was a Soviet attempt to block itself and its satellite states from open contact with the west and non-Soveit-controlled areas.

    The Containment Policy was created by the U.S in 1946 to prevent the spread of communism in the regions of Eastern Europe, China, Korea, and Vietnam. The policy was a response to a series of moves by the Soviet Union to enlarge its communist sphere of influence.

    The Truman Doctrine was an American foreign policy to stop Soviet imperialism during the Cold War. On March 12, 1947 president Harry S. Truman pledged to contain Soviet threats towards Greece and Turkey. Instead of giving the American military arms congress appropriated a free gift of financial aid to support the economies and the militaries of Greece and Turkey.

    The Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan or officially known as the European Recovery Program was created to aid Western Europe in which the U.S gave 13 billion dollars (130 billion in today's money) in economic support. After World War 2 Europe was brought into a downfall. This plan was in operation for four years starting in April 1948. The goal of this plan was to rebuild war devastated regions, remove trade barriers, and prevent the spread of communism.

    The Berlin Blockade

    After World War 2 the Soviet Union wanted to limit the ability of France, Great Britian, and the U.S to travel into their sectors. In order to limit their ability the Soviet Union blocked the western allies railway, road, and canal access to Berlin on June 24, 1948. The blacked lasted til March 12, 1949 when the bliockade had failed.

    The Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was created on June26, 1948 by the U.S and Great Britain to spend supplies and food to Berlin after Berlin was isolated by the Soviet Union. After World war 2 Germany was divided into Soviet, American, British, and French zones of occupation.

    In 1950 President McCarthy became the most visible public face in which the Cold War tensions fueled wide spread communism. During the years 1950 through 1956 thousands Americans were being accused of being communists or communist sympathizer a and became the subject of aggressive investigations and questioning before the government or agencies.

    Sputnik
    The Soviet Union launched Sputnik into an elliptical low earth orbit on October 4, 1957. Sputnik was the first space aircraft to ever go up into space. This created the "Space Race" an it played a tremendous roll during the time of the Cold War
  • The Bay of Pigs

    The Bay of Pigs
    The Bay of Pigs was a failed invasion on April 17, 1961 between the United States and Cuba. The CIA-sponsored group by the U.S attempted the inasion in order to assassinate the Prime Minister dictator, Fidel Castro. As a result 1,200 Cuban exiles backed by the United States landed at the bay of pigs.
