    In 1948 the Soviet Union attempted to limit the U.S, Great Britain and France to travel to the sector of Berlin they had, which was in East Germany that was occupied by Russia.     NATO Formed
    12 countries in North America and Western Europe joined together to sing the North Atlantic Treaty. It was a security pact, a military attack against one is an attack against them all. The members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) consisted of the U.S, Belgium, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Iceland, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Norway. More members came into the organization over the years and some left and only return years later.

    Korean War

    The Korean war was between North and South Korea, thought they both had help from either the Soviet Union and China (North Korea) or the UN and the United States (South Korea).     Warsaw Pact

    Like NATO, the Warsaw Pact created a defence against attacks. It also has internal security that was useful to the Soviet Union. The Warsaw Pact consisted of the USSR, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Poland, Romania, and Hungary. This remained until the end of the Cold War dismantling all of the Communist governments in Eastern Europe.

    The Cuban missile crisis brought high tensions for both the United States and the Soviet Union over the nuclear-armed missiles placed in Cuba by the Soviet Union.     The Strategic Arms Limitation Talks (SALT) agreement was signed in 1972 by the Soviet President and the US President. It limited the number of antiballistic missile (ABM) sites each country could have and the number of intercontinental ballistic missiles and submarine-launched ballistic missiles they could have.

    The Strategic Arms Reduction Talks (START) treaty was signed between Russia and the United States. It was to reduce the two countries armoury of nuclear weapons and technology of delivering such weapons. The talks started in 1982, but was final signed in 1991 at the end of the Cold War.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    Fall of the Soviet Union
    Events that led to the fall of the Soviet Union led to 15 independent countries; Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. On Christmas day, Gorbachev (the USSR leader) gave up his office and stated that it was the end of the Cold War and the arms race. He also said that it was the end of the government and country that crippled their economy and public morals.
