Russian Revolution
The Russian revolution was split into two events, one in which Russians overthrew their government, and the next being the Bolsheviks come into power. The Bolsheviks were a communist party led by Vladimir Lenin, Later Lenin would lead Russia into the Cold War against America. -

The Iron Curtain is the name of the boundary that divided Europe into two different sections at the end of World War II until the cold war ended in 1991. -

Truman and Churchill were together against Stalin and communism. Churchill and Truman wanted to bring democracy to end communism. -

Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine was a request for aid to help foreign countries. He wanted to help specifically Greece and Turkey. The goal was to send needed supplies and if needed military aid. -
Alger Hiss Case
Alger Hiss was accused of spying for the Soviet Union which caused the US to believe that the Soviet Union was trying to ruin them from the inside. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was designed to send aid to Western Europe to help failing countries so they could resist communism. This plan was successful in meeting the goal to bring back confidence to the European people. -
Berlin Blockade
This was Stalin's attempt to force the Western allies out of Berlin and starve the people into submission. He wanted to get rid of the people because he despised Germans. -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was designed to bring help to the people in Berlin. The aircraft's would drop supplies around the clock of what was need like: medical supplies, food, water, and sometimes would drop plane fulls of candy for the children. This went on for nearly a year ending in May 1949. -
NATO
NATO stands for, North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This treaty was made to make the international ties better and counter balance the Soviet Union and Warsaw pack. -
Soviet Bomb Test
The Soviet Union had been working on creating their atomic bomb when they finally figured it out. The Soviets had tested the bomb successfully way before the Americans expected causing a rush of worry across the country. -
Hollywood 10
The Hollywood ten were a group of men who refused to answer questions and were later convicted of contempt and sent to prison. -
Rosenberg Trial
The Rosenberg's were spy's for the Soviet Union that were accused of passing bomb secrets. They went to trial and were convicted to be executed in an electric chair on June 16, 1953. -
Korean War
The Korean war was blamed on Truman for loosing China to communism. The South wanted to resist communism so US troops were sent in to help fight the war. The line that divided the North and South was the 38th parallel. The war ended in July 1953. -
Army-McCarthy Hearing
These hearings were held to find out if McCarthy had truth in his word about accusing people of power for being communists. McCarthy had began to accuse anyone he wanted to to climb in political power. He was later proven guilty of false accusations and committed with treason for the crime. -
Battle of Dien Bien Phu
This was the battle that decided to go into the first Indochina War. It was between the French and Viet Minh on the top of a mountain fighting for communist control against the democratic ruling. -
Geneva Conference
The Geneva Conference was formed to resolve the problems in the Indochina war. The agreement was signed in July 1954 : the french agreed to withdraw their troops and the country would be divided at the 17th parallel. -
Warsaw Pact
Is the opposing pact to the NATO. It was formed for the Soviets to have their allies aligned and looking strong. -
Hungarian Revolution
The Hungarian Revolution was an uprising of the people to get a more democratic government over the constricting ruling of communism. This revolution killed thousands of people with it ending November 10, 1956. -
U2 incident
Two U2 fighting planes were shot down in the Soviet air space. The pilots of these planes were captured causing great diplomatic crisis. -
Bay of Pigs Invasion
This invasion was an attempt to take over Cuba from a communist ruler. The invasion lasted 3 days until it failed on April 19,1961 -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall was made to divide Berlin from the Western "fascist keeping them out of Eastern Germany. Stalin wanted to keep his ways known and not have any outside education on what else there is. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The US was concerned that the Soviet was setting up nuclear weapons on Cuba. So the US decided they would have to fight back but they did not want to engage in a war. So in order to keep peace and remove the missiles from Cuba the President agreed in secret to remove the nuclear missiles in Turkey -
Assassination of Diem
President Ngo Ding Diem was overthrown the day before he was captured along side his brother. The two were killed by a group of American soldiers. They were killed because the president was precised as a burden to the American goal. -
Assassination of JFK
The 35th president, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated while in Dallas Texas. He was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald who was believed to have fired three shots. Kennedy was announced dead 30 minutes after the shooting. -
Tonkin Gulf Resolution
Congress passed this resolution making it so that President Johnson would be able to take any measures he felt were necessary to keep peace in countries around the world, This was also known as the blank check because he spent so much money through this time. -
Operation Rolling Thunder
Operation Rolling Thunder was a code name for the Americans bombing campaign during the Vietnam war. The goal was that sustained bombing to the North Vietnam soldiers would cause them to lose hope in their fighting and sign off on the agreement to have a non-communist government. -

On the night of the invasion roughly 20,000 Warsaw Pact troops with 5,000 tanks went to wipe out the Prague Spring.The people of Czechoslovakia tried a peaceful protest but were over run by the Soviets and their tanks. -
Riots of Democratic Convention
Thousands of Vietnam protesters were in the streets outside the convention battling against the police on what the believed to be true. While there was fighting in the streets the Democratic government falls apart due to a disagreement on Vietnam. -

Richard Nixon was elected president after being a former vice president on November 5,1968 the 46 presidential election. -

In the shooting at Kent State University, four students we killed. They were shot by Ohio National Guard men who decided to go on an open fire and shoot at the crowd.This shooting began pretests that would cause colleges to shut down. -
