Soviet Union closes certain highways that allows Western Allies to get supplies. The significance is it marks how tough they thought they were as a country to stopping all trade with other countries. -
Divison of Germany

The Allied powers were the United States, France, Britian, and the Soviet Union. Significance is that each zone was able to have their own power and do what they want with their zone. -

Soviet Union unblocks the highways that ships supplies. This is significant because now there is transportation of food and supplies with other countries. -
NATO
North Atlantic Treaty Organization is a mutual defense organization. If one country was attacked, all the other members of NATO would help them. The signifcance is it was created to prevent another WWII. -
Korean War
Korean War is a war between North and South Korea. One side is aligned with the communist power. US wanted to stop the spread of communism. This war never technically stopped, they stopped the war with an armistice. The significance is it was considered a US vistory because we saved South Korea. -

The term is derived from the man Joesph McCarthy. The term is making up a threat to go against thecommunists in the US army or government. The significance is he was making anoyomous threats in a public scenario. -
Warsaw Pact
Warsaw Pact included all the other communist countries that were not in NATO. It was signifcant because it showed how everyone did not trust each other. Everyone felt defensive and had to retaliate against each other. -

2 satelliates were launched into space that were powered by rockets. They were called Sputniks. The first launch was unmanded and the second one was able to put the first organic life form in space. It was significant because it could further our technology and view of space. -

Schools were seperated by color. White schools tended to get for funding for school. This was significant because it changed how everyone viewed schools and now there are laws for desegregation. -

The election was between John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon. They were both anti-communists and senators. This was a significant event because it was the first televised presidental debated. People said if you saw the dedate on TV, Kennedy did a better job with his hand cues. The audience who heard it on the radio said Nixon did a better job with the debate. -
Bay of Pigs
CIA trained Cuban exiles who had already left Cuba and made them into commandos. They informed them with profiency with weapons and military tactics. Signicance is they wanted to become an army to knock Fidel Castro out of power. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
During the Cuban Missile Crisis, nuclear weapons launching facilities were used in Cuba to deteer the United States from attacking them..The significance is that it brought a nuclear war instead of stopping the invasion. -
Gulf of Tonkin
During the Golf of Tonkin, the land of China was divided into 4 parts: North Vietnam, South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It was like a Civil War in Vetnam, they wanted to reunite the country under one political rule. It was significant because they used vicious tactics. -
Tet Offensive
The Tet Offensive was a cease fire in southeast Asia. The word "Tet" means new year in Chinese. In 1968, America's enermies in Viertnam used the Tet new year to launch a major surprise attack against the US and South Vietnamese. Although, it was considered a military victory and policital diaster. The significance is it was the turning point of the Vietnam War.
