Berlin Airlift
With Berlin sepearted among countries, the Soviet Union controlling the eastern half, the US flies supplies to eastern Berlin.
Truman is not going to abandon Berlin. He has C-54's airlift supplies to people in Berlin. -

A diplomatic and militant confrontation in late 1956. President of Egypt was attacked im 1956 to nationalize the Canal. -

Sputnik was the first artifical Earth satellite. It was a 585 meter diameter polished metal sphere. The Soviet Union launched it in 1957.
This was the end of the Space Race. -

The Berlin Wall is erected to seperate East Berlin and West Berlin. People were trying to flee the east and go to the west. To stop this Stalin had the Berlin Wall built over night. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missle Crisis was a confrontation with the Soviet Union and Cuban on one side and the US on the other side. The confrontation lasted for 13 days. -

Leonid presided over 18 years as General Secrtary. The Soviets power grew vastly because of their military power. -

The Soviet's invasion of Afghanistan lasted from Dec. 1979 to February 1989. The Afghanistan military recieved billions of dollars from the US, UK, Saudi Arbia. -

The plant exploding and the effect it had on the citizens of the city show us the danger of nuclear weapons. -

Communism was no longer in Germany. The East and West parts of Berlin were reunited. -

Emerged from perestroika reform as one of Gorbachevmost powerful politican. 1990 elected Chairman of Russian Supreme Soviet. -
End of the USSR
The USSR collapsed in 1991. With the deaths of USSR leaders and a standstill economy it made it easy for the Soviet Union to fall. -

Moved to Moscow and joined Boris Yeltsin administration. He was a Lieutant Colonel. Acting President in 1999
