Diefenbaker, Bomar mssiles and nuclear warheads in Canada
- Bomarc missiles was the only Surface to Air missiles (SAMs) to be deployed in the US
- Diefenbaker was compliant to have the Bomarc program in Canada, but soon stopped the Avro Arrow program
- This was highly controversial
- Diefenbaker said that these should not have nuclear warheads attached to them, which led to the collapse of the government in 1963.

The Vietnam War
- Vietnam War escalated when the Soviet Union supported north Vietnam while the United States supported south Vietnam
- Conscription was active at this time in the United States, which caused a lot of problems for a lot of people
- Many people fled from the United States after they received their draft notice, so to avoid the war they would typically go to Canada
- Canada harboured 20,000-30,000 well-abled American draft-eligible men.

The Suez Crisis
- Tensions have grown since Israel was created, because it was founded off of Arab holy land.
- Egyptians wanted to destroy them.
- Israel was supported by the western nations, while the opposing nations were supported by Soviets.
- Egyptians took the Suez canal, which was French and English, so Israel went and attacked Egyptian land

- In 1957, Soviets put a satellite into space as a part of the space race, Sputnik.
- Western Nations saw this as a problem, as they thought this can deliver a nuclear warhead anywhere in North America
- In 1962, Canadians sent up their satellite, the Aloutette.

Lester B Pearson accepts the Nobel Peace Prize
- Lester B Pearson found a solution to the Suez Crisis on an emergency all-night General Assembly meeting
- Sent peacekeepers to Suez
- Sent the largest contribution to the peace effort, 800 Canadians
- Accepted the Nobel Peace Prize for his actions

The Avro Arrow and its cancellation
- Was a space aircraft built by Canadians that can exceed the speeds of Mach 2 (the speed of sound, twice.)
- Because of political disputes, there was only 5 created and the program was cancelled on February 20th, 1959
- The Avro Arrow was developed in response to the Soviet's strategy of creating aircraft capable of delivering nuclear warheads anywhere in the North Americas.

The Cuban Missile Crisis
- This occurred when Communist Cuba wanted to accept all nuclear bombs from the Soviet Union
- The United States retaliated by creating a blockade, or "quarantine"
- Or, in other words, they'd shoot at any cargo ship from the soviet union
- This ended when the UN had an agreement with the Soviet Union that dictated they would dismantle the nuclear heads in Russia and then send the parts back to the soviet union.

- This series was created in intention to produce a best-on-best hockey series.
- The series was tied until the last game, when Canada won
- Paul Henderson scored with 34 seconds left in the game
- This was a major symbolic victory for Canadians, as it expressed the superiority to the Soviets.
