The Confederates surrendered to the Union on July 4th 1868. Vicksburg was one of the most successful Union wins. Grant sent me 180 miles. They won 5 battles and held 6,000 prisoners. -

This act allowed Kansas and Nebraska to choose if they wanted slavery or not in their land. After the act was passed, many people went in to those city's to live their. -
James Buchanan Sworn into Office
James Buchanan was the 15th president of the U.S. (1857-1861). During this time, seven states left the Union. He was a democrat who did not like slavery, but thought it was protected by the Constitution. He tried to keep peace between both sides in the government. Abe Lincoln was the next president, and shortly after South Carolina left the Union. The Confederacy was established after Buchanan left office. -
Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was born in Virginia and was determined. He grew up as a slave and was born in 1800. He lived in a free territory and so he thought he should be free. Roger Tony said that he is still property and is not free. -
South Carolina secedes from the Union
South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union. South Carolina had many troops. South Carolina had many prisoners. They were the only Confederate state to not have harbor pockets. -
Lincoln Elected 16th President
Abe Lincoln was in the Republican party, He was against slavery. He got elected in 1860 by beating Stephen Douglas, a Democrat that was opposed to slavery as well. Just over 2 months he was elected, South Carolina seceded on December 20, 1860. -
Battle at Fort Sumter
The first battle of the Civil War was at Fort Sumter. Lincoln got a message from the commander at Fort Sumter saying they needed supplies. Lincoln sent unarmed troops with supplies to the fort. Jefferson Davis then sent troops to attack. The intense bombardment forced them to surrender. -
The Battle of Bull Run
The battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War. Due to the Union not being able to position themselves, the confederates ended up getting reinforcements. Both sides had poor troops which led to a Confederate victory. -
Battle of Shiloh
The battle of Shiloh was a two day battle. It all started when the Confederate army surprised the Union with surprise attack. The Union pushed the Confederates back resulting as a Union win. -
Battle of Antietam
This was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War and the bloodiest day in American History. This battle took place in Sharpsburg, Maryland and by Antietam creek. This was a Union victory. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
The Battle of Fredericksburg had nearly 200,000 troops fighting, and was the largest amount of troops in any Civil War Battle. This happened on December 13, 1862. This battle was a Confederate victory. -

The Emancipation Proclamation was a decree issued by President Lincoln freeing enslaved people in those parts of the Confederacy Rebellion. -

The battle of Gettysburg was fought for 3 days and is one of the most important battles. Lee marched into Pennsylvania and they found the Union troops. The next day Lee used an attack on Cemetery Ridge called Pickets Charge. The Union was able to stand the charge and won the battle, -
Sherman's March to the Sea
William Sherman led 60,000 soldiers from Atlanta to Savannah. They did this so it would scare the people who are living in Georgia. The men were not allowed to break anything but they were able to steal. -
South Surrenders
The South won many battles but could not win it all. General Lee surrendered on April 9, 1865, due to loss of troops and got outnumbered. They had a great war but couldn't come out on top.
