On Feb. 1862 Grant led a army into Tennessee in hope to capture Fort Henry and Donelson. Also on Feb. 6 Grant captured Fort Henry and then 10 dats later he catpured Fort Donelson. -

On April 6, 1862 the Battle of Shiloh was started by the Confederates who caught General Grant by suprise. Union reienforcements arrived at the night of the battle. -

Lincoln sent forces back to Virginia to catpure Richmond under the command of General George B. McClellan in the spring of 1862. -
Control of Tennessee and Cumberland
The Union controlled the key stretches of Tennessee and Cumberland by the spring of 1862. Thye also controlled some rivers and Southern railroads. -
Crossing into Maryland
Lee's army was crossing into Maryland on Sept. 4 1862 but they were starving and exhausted. -
The Battle of Antietam
On Sept. 17, 1862 the Battle of Antietam begun. At rhe end of the war 13,700 Confederate soilders died and 12,500 Union soilders died. -
Different Way to Vicksburg
General Grant went to a different way to take Vicksburg in 1863. He went from the Mississippi River and moved into Jackson, Mississippi. -
The Battle of the Gettysburg
On July 1, 1863 was the first day of the Battle of the Gettysburg. The Confederates forced the Union back to Cemetery Ridge. -
Grant's series of battles with Lee
In 1864 Grant marched into eastern Virginia where Lee and him fought a set of battles. They fought at Wilderness, Spotsylvvania, and Cold Harbor.
