    This battle was the first major land battle of the American Civil War. It took place in Manassas, Virginia and played a big role in the war because it showed each side what the war was going to be like.

    This is very important to the Civil War because it puts a lot of troops into motion and truely shows the seriousness of the war. This was all planned to happen by February 22nd.

    This was huge for General Ulysses and the Union Army because Fort Henry was a major military fort that will be a major focal point of the war. Fort Henry is located in Tennesee

    This was huge for the way the war was fought at sea becauset the use of wooden ships by both the Union and the Confederacy was discontinued

    This was a big deal in the Civil War because it allowed the Union to have more soliders becasue black slaves could now fight alongside Union Soliders this was a huge advantage to the Union

    This was big for the war because it was advantageous
    to the aspect of war but not so much for the soliders and their families because men who were not rich had to fight, but men who were wealthy did not. Poor men in the North did not like this very much.

     Battle of Chancellorsville
    General Hooker is defeated by a much smaller force under command of General Lee. This happened becasue General Lee took a big risk and used daring tactics to defeat a much larger force. During this battle Stonewall Jackson is mortally wounded.

    The South suffers a huge blow, Stonewall Jackson dies
    This was a huge deal because Stonewall Jackson was a decorated war hero who led many men into battle. He was a natural leader who gave orders to many men and was a big advantage to the South.

    The tide of war turns against the South as the Confederates are defeated at the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. This is a HUGE battle of the Civil War because the flow of the war is turned the opposite way.

    This played a big role in the Civil War because the Union was now in control of the Mississippi so now the Confederacy is split in two and cut off from its western allies.

     President Lincoln appoints General Grant to command all of the armies of the United States
    This was a risky move by Lincoln because it could cost him numerous casualties or it could make him a winner of the bloodiest war in all of America's history. Grant had complete control of every solider in the entire nation.
  • Atlanta is captured by Sherman's Army

    Atlanta is captured by Sherman's Army
    This was a major event of the Civil War because it gave Lincoln a card to play in his re-election. People saw him as a successful president and this victory at Atlanta gave people proof of his success.

    This was a huge aspect of the country's fate because Lincoln now still has power over the entire country. He claimed that this would be a major help to the country in this time of need for a good president.
  • A peace conference is held between the south and the union

    A peace conference is held between the south and the union
    Lincoln and confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens meet and talk about the war. Lincoln trying to bring peace, discusses the war with Alexander Stephens but the Confederacy wanted to continue to fight it out. The war will continue. This could have been the end of the war but both parties did not agree.

    John Wilkes Booth shot and killed the President as him and his wife were watching a play, This was a HUGE problem for the country because there was no president anymore and the vice-president will now take over. Who knows how the rest of the war would play out with a new president now in command.

    The remaining Confederate forces surrender. The Nation is reunited as the Civil War ends. Over 620,000 Americans died in the war, with disease killing twice as many as those lost in battle. 50,000 survivors return home as amputees.
