Blockade
The North had a much bigger naval prescense because of the shipping done in the northern states, therefore, they took their navy and blocked the coastline of the south to prevent trade and supplies coming in. -

Stonewall Jackson makes his first major appearance in the war by attacking union forces forcing them back to Washingotn D.C. to protect it. -
Harper's Ferry
General Lee and Jackson took on union forces and captured Harper's ferry (a pivotal place in the war). -
Battle of Fredricksburg
Northern General McClellan was replaced by General Burnside who took on Lee and his forces in Fredricksburg. After losing the battle to Lee Bursode was replaced by General Hooker -
Emancipation
Lincoln signed the Emancipation proclamation that declared all slaves be freed and gave them all rights as citizens -
Vicksburg
General Grant began the siege of Vicksburg Mississippi and it would take him around a month to take it over -
Gettysburg
On July 1 The north and south forces had a chance meeting and the battle of gettysburg began. The south lost and this was really the turning point for the battle becasue now the south lost all recognition from foreign countries. This battle also had the highest casualty total of any battle during the war. This is also where Lincoln made his famous Gettysburg Address -
March to the Sea
Union General Shreman began is march to the south carolina coast in Atlanta Georgia. On his march his men were oredered to destroy and burn everything in their path. this hit the economy of the South hard because they burned up all of their crops. -
Re-Election
Abraham Lincoln is re-elected as president of the union. -
Depleting Forces
General Lee's men began deserting the army during the army becasue of the shortage of food and supplies and the weather. This was the beinning of the fall of the confederate army. -
Evacuation
After losing the battle of Petersburg to General Grant, General Lee retreated to Richmond and on April 2, evacuated Richmond and left the capital to be taken by the union. -
Surrender
General Grant called upon Lee after surrounding the southern troops. At the Appomatox court house General Lee officially surrendered to the Union and men were sent home on parole with horses and no firearms excpet for officers -
Assassination
President Lincoln was shot in Ford theatre by John Wilkes Booth only 5 days after the war was over.
