Amendment 13
It was the first of the three reconstruction amendments adopted after the civil war. This amendment abolished slavery. Congress proposed this amendment to the house and the senate in Washington D.C. -
Montgomery Bus Boycott
The Montomery Bus Boycott started because of the arrest of Rosa Parks. It lasted for approximately a year and it was a peaceful boycott. Martin Luther King JR. started it. The local bus company lost thousands of dollars of bus fares. -
Litle Rock Nine
At Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas eight of the Little Rock Nine were denied access to the school by the National Gaurd. The Nationol Gaurd was called by governor Orval Faubus. The next day the president called federal troops to escort Elizabeth Eckford into the school. This caused desegregation of schools. -
Greensboro Sit-In
In Greensboro, North Carolina, college students sat down at a whites only lunch bar and refused to leave. The waitress denied them service but they stayed. this is civil disobedience. Htis caused theaters, hotels, hospitals, and other public facilities to desegregate. -
Wilmington Riots
In Wilmington North Carolina violent protests and arson were used. It was conducted by 10 people. 9 African American men, and one woman. They firebombed Mike's Grocery a white owned grocery store. They were convicted for arson and conspiracy and served nearly a decade in jail.
