451 The Council of Chalcedon
Teachings by the Council of Nicea could not say if Jesus was human or a semi-God. The council concluded with saying that Jesus was both fully human and fully devine. The purpose of the council was to keep other people from debating and fighting. -

The East-West Schism was created by Pope Leo III. The East disliked the purpose of crowning the pope as he could abuse it by having the power over all catholic churches. Many worried that he would be able to change their religion practices. -

1347 The Plague/The Black Death
While The Black Death occurred, many people in the catholic church believed that God is punishing them. People went to church to be reconciled from God, however the church had no idea what to do. Priests helped those who had the disease although it would come with a cost, because this was affordable for wealthy people. Since there was no explanation on The Black Death many people became rebellious and also did harsh punishment on themselves for forgiveness. -

1517 The Reformation
The Reformation began in 1517. This was caused by a German monk named Martin Luther. Martin Luther led the protestant church which had many people adopting into it. Martin Luther thought that the Catholic church had to much power and was on the edge of corruption. -

1517 Martin Luther’s Publication of 95 Theses
Martin Luther wrote a document that protested against the church and he hoped to change the Catholic Church. His 95 theses was presented by two central beliefs. They were that salvation was only reached through their faith, not their deeds. -

1545-1563 The Council of Trent
Luther claimed that the Catholic Church must be reformed because of their corruption. Catholics joined the protestant hoping for the renewal of the Catholic Church. -

1555 Peace of Augsburg
A Peace of Augsburg was signed which resulted in the recognition of both Lutheranism and Roman Catholicism. All leaders from each religion gained access to decide on their own religion practices. The Peace of Augsburg’s purpose to achieve peace among each other. -
1868-1870 The First Vatican Council
The first Vatican Council was attended by Pope Pius IX and 744 bishops. The purpose of the event was to recap over the catholic faith and the pope. The whole event of the First Vatican council was just to remind people about the preaching of God. -
1962-1965 The Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council was called by Pope John XXIII. Pope John XXIII established the Second Vatican Council because he believed that people in the 20th century needed to know more about the meaning of faith.
