    Zhou dynasty

    was the longest-lasting of China's dynasties. It ended when the army of the state of Qin captured the city of Chengzhou in 256 B.C.E. Wuwang established the Zhou Dynasty and made Haojing its capital. This dynasty was the longest in Chinese history. It lasted for over 800 years and included the reigns of 37 emperors.The Zhou created the Mandate of Heaven: the idea that there could be only one legitimate ruler of China at a time, and that this ruler had the blessing of the gods.

Also succeeded by the Three Kingdoms period (220–280 AD). Spanning over four centuries, the Han period is considered a "golden age" in Chinese history.
