The Building of a Free Nation

America is known as "The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave". This was not always the case; many early settlers gave their lives, battles were won, and treaties were signed to grant us freedom! My timeline focuses on pivotal moments(1763 - 1789)in U.S. History, which were milestones to gaining our freedom. We end the timeline with the naming of the first Constitutional President, George Washington. Integrity and Firmness is all I can promise.

    Lancaster Treaty of 1744
Early Colonists from Virginia and Maryland met with the Six Nations or Iroquois to discuss the selling of their land. The discussion was presented to the Indians as a treaty to prevent trespassing into the Blue Ridge area of the mountains but in the end, it left the Iroquois with the Shenandoah Valley as their area of land, while Virginia and Maryland gained ownership of the other parts of the Indians land. http://www.virginiaplaces.org/nativeamerican/graphics/lancastertreatyroad.png

    Treaty of Paris - 1763
The Treaty of Paris was signed after an almost 8 year war between Great Britain and France whom were seeking to control northeastern colonies in America. The Treaty gave rule of the colonies to the British, ended the Seven Year's War, and eliminated the French power in colonies. This brought peace to for only a short time. Due to Great Britain's war debt, they began taxing colonies which in essence led to the American Revolution.

    State Constitutions Drafted in 1778
In 1778, after signing 'The Declaration of Independence', the thirteen sovereign states drafted their own constitutions. These Constitutions made it possible to create laws based on each states local experience, overall beliefs, and traditions. This proved to be somewhat challenging due to new ways thinking or governing without a King. The State Constitutions helped pave the way for the National Constitution in 1787 - 1788.(http://worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/namerica/usstates/colonies.gif)

George Washington, President of the United States
George Washington was an amazing General during the American Revolution, a great politician, and became the President of the United States of America in 1789. He is recognized as the first President under our newly adopted National Constitution. There were in fact 8 Presidents before him but their term as Presidents was not under the guidelines of the National Constitution of the United States of America.
