The Build Up to WWII

  • Period: to

The series of appeasements to Nazi Germany

The series of appeasements to Nazi Germany are made during this time period. They started with the world forgiving Germany for arming their military, and ended with war breaking out when Germany invaded Poland. The logic behind the appeasements was that the world did not want another war, Germany had been hit hard by WWI, and that they really did deserve some compensation. However when the world gave Hitler an inch, he took a mile.
  • Hitler announces his intentions to rearm the millitary of Germany

Hitler announces his intentions to rearm the German military to the world. Although this goes against the treaty of versailles, other countries let Hitler do this out of pity. This sense of pity was spawned when Germany was hit so hard by the unfair terms of the Treaty of Versailles. This was the first of many "appeasements" that were made for Germany.

    Ghettoization period

The end of 1939 was when the Germans started to really crack down on Jews. They were forced to wear the Yellow star and had a curfew that kept them off the streets between 9:00 P.M. and 5:00 A.M. If the Jews broke any of these laws, they would face years in prison. The Nazis also set up many Ghettos in this time and hundreds of thousands of Jews were sent there.

  • Hitler orders the invasion of Russia

    June 22, 1941
Hitler orders the invasion of Russia. On June 22, 1941, Hitler orders the invasion of Russia despite the non-violence pact that the Soviets and the NAZIs had. This move was ultimately Germany's undoing, due to the fact that after this happened Germany was fighting a war on two fronts.
  • The United States declares war on Japan.

The United States declares war on Japan.
    December 8, 1941
The United States declares war on Japan. The day before this, the Japanese bombs Pearl Harbor. Being Allies, the Japanese ambassador in Germany asks for Hitler's support in the war. Hitler did not feel obligated to help them, but he was not looking to avoid a fight. By subsequently declaring war on the US, Hitler unites the three world powers (the US, Britian, and the USSR) against him. This is the turning point of the war, and it is the ultimate reason for Germany's fall.
