Liesel's brother dies on the train
He was 6 years old. He appears in Liesels mind sometimes. -
Liesel steals her first book
It is called "The Grave Diggers Handbook." It is the start of her new career. -
Liesel gets dropped off at the Hubermans house
They will be her foster parents. Rosa Huberman tends to swear a lot she would say Saumensch or Saukerl or Arschloch. Sau refers to pigs. Saumensch is for a girl. Saukerl is for a boy. Arschloch can be translated directly into “A-hole.” Hans plays the accordian and Liesel likes him immediately. -
Liesel plays soccer and meets the kids on the Himmel street.
That is where she meets Rudy Stiener her future best friend and Rudy finds out that he likes Liesel. -
Papa starts to teach Liesel how to read
He finds her book but instead of being mad he offers to read to her. -

Liesel becomes the heavyweight champion of the school
She beats up Ludwig Schmeikl for laughing at her because she embarassed herself by misreading in front of the class. -
Liesel gets 2 books for Christmas
Her papa traded 8 cigarettes for them. -
Liesel writes a letter to her real mother
She uses some of the family washing money to mail it. She hopes she can meet her mother again soon. -
Hitler's birthday where Liesel steals her 2nd book
The Nazi party has a big party at Molching and Liesel steals her second book, "The Shoulder Shrug," at a book burning there. The mayor's wife saw her steal it. -
The mayor's wife shows Liesel her library
She saw Liesel steal the book but is kind and shows her the library. -
Max Vandenburg starts his journey to find Hans Huberman
Max is a Jew and his father saved Hans Huberman's life. Hans promised Max's mother he would repay the favor someday so Max thought he would help him. -
Max Vandenburg Finds Hans Huberman and hides in his basement
Hans remembers Max and lets him inside to hide for a while. -
Liesel and Max exchange nightmares
Max fights with Hitler and Liesel sees her brother. -
Liesel gets another book for her birthday
She is 13 and hasn't developed yet. -
Liesel gets "The Standover Man" a book Max made for her
Max felt bad because he didn't have anything to give Liesel so he made her a book. He painted over the pages of his copy of "Mein Kampf" to make it. -
Rudy Stiener recovers "The Whistler"
A bully had thrown it into the river. She had gotten it from the mayor's library. -
Liesel introduces snow to Max
They make a mini snowman. -
Max collapses
Max collapses by the fire. Rosa blames the snow but Hans blames Hitler. -
Max wakes up
Max finally wakes up out of his coma like condition. Liesel had gathered some presents for him like a nutcracker, and other things out of nature. -
Rudy wins 3 out of his 4 races
Rudy runs 4 of the races at the Hitler group fair. He wins all but the last one. -
A real air-raid in Molching
Everyone on Himmel street goes into one basement. Liesel read "The Whistler" out loud during it. -
Liesel gives up hope on her letter to her real mother
Hans told her he almost wrote her a letter and signed it with her mothers name. -
Liesel has to read "The Whistler" to Frau Holtzapfel
Liesel read "The Whistler" during the air raid and Frau Holtzapfel liked it so she hired Liesel to read to her. -
Max Vandenburg leaves the Huberman's house
Max is convinced it isn't safe for them to help him anymore so he leaves. -
The coat men- from the Nazi party come for Rudy
He had gotten evaluated at school a week before. His dad Alex volunteers instead. -
Hans Huberman is accepted into the Nazi party
He had waited for this for a while but it seemed to good to be true. He feels safe now that he is in the party. -
Hans Huberman is sent to Russia to help the Nazi army
It was to good to be true they sent Hans away to clear rubble for the Nazi army. -
Hans Huberman and Alex Stiener leave for war
They have different positions so they won't be working together. -
Liesel gets a letter that her Papa is coming home
He is coming home with just a broken leg. -
Liesel reads 54 pages during the bombings
She is reading "The Whistler" again. -
Rudy gives his teddy bear to the dying pilot
His plane got bombed. -
Hans Huberman comes home with only a broken leg
Every one is exited but Rudy is jelous that his papa did not come home. -
Liesel see's Max in a parade of Jews
She runs in to talk to him but gets pulled away. -
Molching is bombed and only Liesel survived
The alarms were too late.She was in her basement writing in her book. -
Max finds Liesel after the war ended
She did't have anyone left to go to so it was a surprise that Max was still alive.
