Liesel's father is a soldier in world war 1. One of his friends is a Jewish soldier and teaches him how to play the accordion. The say after the Jewish soldier volunteers him to write the captains letters. His platoon goes into battle and none of them return. He kept his accordion and when he found Liesel he played it for her. -

Death is introduced as the person that watches everything through the whole story. It describes his view of himself. What he sees when he takes a soul and how he feels. -
The book thief
Death sees the Liesel they are on a train with other people. The reason death is there is to get a little boy. -
Death in the family
The little boy that died was Liesel's brother, Werner. They got off the train and decided to bury him. They went to the grave yard and asked the gravediggers to bury him. One of the grave diggers dropped a book when he was walking away, Liesel picked it up. -
Liesel's life
Liesel lives with her foster parents. Her mother is sick and has a great relationship with her father. He does everything for her and with her. She has nightmares of her dead brother and he comes and calms her down. -

In celebration of Hitler's birthday the Germans decided to burn all books by non-Aryan authors. When they are burning all the books Liesel decides to steal a book that has not been burned. -

Acting out of line could mean punishment. Liesel's dad helps jews by putting paint over slurs on their shops. This could be punishable. -
2 trouble makers
Liesel and her friend ruby steal and help other children that don't have a lot of things. They go so far they pour ice on the road and wait for the delivery boy to come by and take the food. -

The second incounter
Death encounters the book thief again. He is there to get the soul of a pilot that crashed his plane. In grief liesel puts a teddy bear on on his chest and he says thank you. -
Everything is lost
Liesel was writing a book in her basement when bombs started dropping. When the bombing was over she is rescued from the rubble to find everything and everyone she loved was dead. Her dad, Ruby , her mom were all dead. She kissed ruby and put the accordion next to her dad's body. She leaves a book in the basement and leaves everything behind. -
The third encounter
They are in a German town that is getting bombed and he sees her sitting on a pile of rubble. Holding the book in her hands. As she walks away she drops the book and death picks it up.
