C.L. Harock desgins the telescope shock absorber using a cylinder and piston setup inside a metal casing. The piston resists the other direction by air or oil. This results in a smooth ride because of less bouncing. This invention is still used today. -
The first three-horsepower car introduced
The Olds automobile company in Detroit, mass produces cars. They make 425 three-horsepower cars, aka "curved dash" Oldsmobile at $650. -
Model T. is Produced
Henry Ford begins making the 'Model T' and produces 10,660 units in the first year. The car is awarded for its iterchangeable parts. Using mass production they succeed in selling many units for years. -
Electric Starter Engine is Introduced
Charles Kettering introduces the highly criticized, electric starter engine small enough to fit in the car. This replaces the hand crank starter. He starts service in 1912 Cadillacs. -
First Power Steering System
Francis Wright Davis uses a Pierce-Arrow to introduce the first power steering system. This design is an integration of the steering linkage with a hydraulics system. -
Flashing Turn Signal is introduced
Delaware company develops the flashing turn signal. The flashing effect is actually a short-circuiting of the wire reaching the lighbulb. -
Cruise Control is Developed
A blind man while driving on the highway, senses by hearing that cars on the Pennsilvania Turnpike move at uneven speeds. This leads to accidents. Develops a cruise control mechanism to set a car at a steady speed. -
Airbags Become Standard
Airbags become standard on both the driver and passanger side. They originally installed only on the driver's side. -
Anti-Lock Braking System Introduced
The Lincoln becomes the first car to have Anti-Lock braking system. Made is Germany. This system uses computer sensors to sense the pressure of the wheels and adjusting them so that they move a little instead of stopping completely. -
Back-up Camera is Introduced
Back-up camera /rearview cameras are put on waste management trucks. This is invented to see obticles in the blind spot behind your car.
