    Sir Charles Augustus is chosen as tenth governor of NSW by Lord Stanley, replacing Sir George Gipps. When he hears about the gold, he announces that the first person to find 'payable' gold, will be offered a reward of money.

    Edward Hargraves went to the Californian goldrush in 1849.When he came back he saw the hills in Bathurst in NSW and thought they were similar to the hills full of gold in California, so he decided to teach his techniques that he learnt in California to John Lister and William, James and Henry Tom.

    Hargraves and his companions find gold. Hargraves was rewarded 10,00 ponds and a life pension. Even though his companions helped him, they got no reward.
