The Mayan civilization starts out in Southern Mexico as a heavily agriculturally based society. They start grouping together and they start to build houses and eventually cities. -

The Creation of The First Great Mayan Temple
Around this time the Mayans had formed a stable civilization capable of building stone structures and cities. So naturally this is when they started building the first of the Mayan temples/pyramids. -

Later Maya
During this time the Mayans had many cities and many more inventions and advancements in technology. This was the peak of the Mayan empire before its collapse. -

The Peak of The Mayan CIvilization
The Mayans are now a very large civilization with over 40 cities with more than 2 million people. They have made many technological and scientific advancements. -

The Collapse of The Mayan Civilization
The Extensive use of resources over many years leaves the Mayans with few resources left. With a major drought setting in the Mayans start dying out. With not enough access to water and food to sustain an overpopulated empire the Mayan cities are abandoned.
