    Early Maya

    The Mayans did not have very many cities or stone structures during this time. They mainly focused on agricultural advancements and housing improvements.

    The Mayan civilization starts out in Southern Mexico as a heavily agriculturally based society. They start grouping together and they start to build houses and eventually cities.

    Around this time the Mayans had formed a stable civilization capable of building stone structures and cities. So naturally this is when they started building the first of the Mayan temples/pyramids.

    Later Maya

    During this time the Mayans had many cities and many more inventions and advancements in technology. This was the peak of the Mayan empire before its collapse.

    The Mayans are now a very large civilization with over 40 cities with more than 2 million people. They have made many technological and scientific advancements.

    The Extensive use of resources over many years leaves the Mayans with few resources left. With a major drought setting in the Mayans start dying out. With not enough access to water and food to sustain an overpopulated empire the Mayan cities are abandoned.
