Stamp Act
Imposed a direct tax on the colonists. Legal documents and printed papers must include a stamp. This was assigned by the British on the Americans. -
Coercive Acts
4 laws passed by the British to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea party. The British wanted the Americans to pay for what they had done during the Boston tea party and thought by making these laws this would be punishment. -
Declaration of Independence
The declaration of independence declared the 13 colonies now free. They were now independent from Britain and sided with French for help during the war. -
Battle of Yorktown
This battle was the most important one of the revolutionary war. General George Washington lead an army of 17,000 against the British. General Cornwallis and his British troops finally surrender. This was the last battle of the revolutionary war. -
Treaty of Paris
This treaty is what ended the war between America and Great Britain. With help from France America had won the war and was now declared United States of America. -
Constitutional convention
This meeting was that so that they can decide how America was going to be governed. Their plans were just to revise the original articles of confederation but others wanted to start from scratch. They had to decide how they wanted to elect the president and if people should vote or not. -
French Revolution
This had lasted 10 years and ended in 1799. This war was caused because of King Louis XVI and his poor economic decisions. People had wanted more power and control over parts of France. -
George Washington delivers
George Washington delivers the first state of the Union address. On the same day George Washington delivers state of the union Benjamin Franklin also dies. Washington DC is now established as the capital of the United States.
