  • Navigation Acts

    Acts of the Parliament that were intended to promote self sufficiency of the British Empire by restricting colonial trade to England and decreasing dependence on foreign goods.
  • French and Indian War Ends

    England along with the colonies defeat France and the Native American allies. Britain treasury drained. Britain thought colonists should pay their share.
  • Stamp Act

    Increased the taxes to pay for the defending of the British empire. The colonists were outraged by this and refused to use the stamps, while others caused riots.
  • Boston Massacre

    9 British Soldiers fired into a crowd of people, killing 3 and injuring 8 after the Bostonians threw hard packed snowballs at the Soldiers.
  • Tea Act

    The British Parliament added a tax on tea and gave the East India Company full control of trade and delivery on tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Was a political protest in Boston, Massachusetts, where the American colonists dumped 342 chests of tea into the Boston harbor they were unhappy at Britain for the taxes.
  • Coercive/ Intolerable Acts

    Series of 5 laws passed by the British that punished the Massachusetts Bay colony for the Boston Tea party. The 4 laws that were passed were the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Administration of Justice Act, the Quartering Act, and the Quebec Act. These laws were put in place to break Massachusetts bay and show other colonies what happens when there’s rebellious behavior.
  • First Continental Congress

    Was a meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 colonies and it’s purpose was to show support for Boston and work out a unified approach to the British.
  • Secondary Continental Congress

    Was the formal meeting of the delegates of the colonies to make decisions about the war between the Americans and Britain.
  • Battles of Lexington and Concord

    British troops moved from Boston to Concord and Lexington which was to seize military supplies from the colonists and arrest revolutionaries.
  • The Declaration of Independence adopted

    The Declaration of Independence was the document that said that the 13 colonies were independent from Great Britain and it was something the committee wanted to follow once they’ve won the war.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    There were 2 battles, one of September 19 and the other on October 7, 1777. On Sep 19, Gates’ (American) army and Burgoyne’s army (British) fought at Freeman’s farm. The Americans won that battle. On Oct 7, Burgoyne lead an unsuccessful attack at Bemis Heights on the Americans and ended up surrendering on Oct 17. This victory lifted patriot morale and helped secure the foreign support needed to win the war (France’s treaty).
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    An American camp where soldiers worked together just to survive. There were shortages of everything from food to medicine to clothes. Washington’s men were sick from hunger, exposure, and disease.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    The last major battle of the American Revolution in which Cornwallis surrendered to Washington and the Americans gained their independence.
  • U.S. Constitution Written

    The founding fathers of the US came together to write the ground rules of the U.S. and show that the US was made to serve the people.
