  • The Signing of The Declaration Of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson drafted the first declaration of independence, it was reviewed and edited accordingly by the founding fathers. It declared the 13 colonies a free state now known as United States of America. The declaration had not been signed by the founding fathers on the same day.
  • Battle of Kip's Bay

    British fire upon american militia at kips bay NY, the inexperienced militia flees. Skirmishes by the British lead to the capture of some of the militia personnel. The battle was a british victory but the british did not move upwards for 2 months.
  • Nathan Hale executed

    On September 21, 1776, Nathan Hale penetrated the British lines on Long Island to obtain information, he was captured by the British and was hanged without trial the next day. Hale was interrogated by British General William Howe and, when it was discovered that he was carrying incriminating documents, General Howe ordered his execution for spying.
  • First Mass Military Inoculation

    On the 6th of January 1777, George Washington wrote to Dr. William Shippen Jr, ordering him to inoculate all of the forces that came through Philadelphia.
  • Marquis de Lafayette Arrives At Philadelphia

    Marquis de Lafayette, a 19 year old French aristocrat, arrives in Philadelphia and volunteers to serve without pay. Congress appoints him as a major general in the Continental Army. Lafayette returns home after the American revolution and advocated for a governing body representing the three social classes, and drafted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen.
  • The Battle of Paoli

    on September 21, the British led by Lord Grey launched a devastating strike into Wayne's unprepared American camp. Grey had ordered his men to remove the flints from their rifles before the attack began. Grey instructed the soldiers to use their bayonets or swords instead.
  • Continental Army Retreats to Valley Forge

    Washington intends to set up camp for the winter at valley forge with 12,000 men that need food, shelter and clothing for 6 months. it is here where the continental army is trained by washington's new recruit friedrich von steuben, former staff member of frederick the great.
  • Signing of The French Alliance

    The Treaty of Alliance, Treaty negotiated by the American diplomats Benjamin Franklin, Silas Deane, and Arthur Lee, provided for a military alliance against Great Britain and the absolute independence of the United States be recognized as a condition for peace. Formalized in the 1778 Treaty of Alliance, it was a military pact in which the French provided many supplies for the Americans.
  • Battle of Barren Hill

    British troops attempt to encircle a small continental army force under the command of Marquis de Lafayette. It was a relatively minor engagement with the British but could have had terrible consequences for the American forces.The maneuver fails and the army escapes though the british did capture the field, Due to quick thinking and good strategy, the continental army escaped what could have been a very deadly encounter.
  • Washington's Army leaves Valley Forge

    After the long winter at Valley Forge the confident and strengthened continental army leave Valley Forge. Ready to move against the retreating British, Washington abandoned Valley Forge by crossing the Schuylkill River and setting up camp a mile away. It was time to see if Von Steuben's work had payed off
  • The Battle of Rhode Island

    The Battle of Rhode Island was fought August 29, 1778, during the American Revolution and was an attempt at a combined operation between American and French forces. During the summer of 1778, a French fleet arrived on the American coast to aid in war efforts. The fighting cost General Sullivan 30 killed, 138 wounded, and 44 missing, while Robert Pigot's forces sustained 38 killed, 210 wounded, and 12 missing.
  • Spain Declares War on Britain

    on this day spain declares war on britain, Though spain's king charles III would not consent to a treaty of alliance French Foreign Minister Charles Gravier managed to convince him to join the war for the american cause. Spain’s entry into the ordeal ensured that the British would have to spread their resources even thinner. King Charles wanted to reclaim Gibraltar for Spain and secure Spanish borders in North America.
  • John Andre Arrested

    British Captain John André arrested as a spy in New York. His arrest would expose General Benedict Arnold's plot to turn West Point over to the British. He was later hanged for being a spy for the British
  • Preliminary Articles of Peace

    The Preliminary articles of peace are signed, bringing the hostilities of the American Revolution to a close. After the surrender of lord cornwallis the british became more inclined to make peace with the Americans. If either side is to conquer territory of the opposing side the war shall continue.
  • The Treaty of Paris

    The Treaty of Paris, treaty signed in Paris by the representatives of King George III and representatives of the United States of America on September 3, 1783, ended the American Revolutionary War
