Boston Tea Party
A group of protesters boarded a ship that held a lot of tea and dumped it all into the Boston Harbor to protest against taxing tea. -
"Intolerable" Acts
From the French Indian war the Government had to tax the colonist. The king closed Boston Harbor. Colonist protested because they thought it was against there rights. It caused the quatering act. -
First Contenentle Congress
12 colonies except Georgia met at Carpenters Halls discussing options like an economic boycott of British trade, rights and grievances, and petitioning King George III for redress of those grievances. -
Lexington and Concord
700 british people were commanded and to destroy military supplies that were in Concord. The colonist had already moved there supplies. The first shot is unknown as far as who shot first. 49 patriots we killed and 73 British were killed. -
Second Continental Congress
Most of the delagates from the 1st Continental Congress we at the 2nd. The Congress met at the House of Philadelphia. Benjamin Franklin wanted independance soon adopting the Declaration of Independance but many disagreed. -
Americans lose Fort Ticoderoga
Used to be a french fort that was takin over by the British. Then captured by Americans. It had a lot of British weapons. Then the British got control over it again but then ditched it. -
George Washington takes command of Continental Army
He did not start his job until July 3. The army Washinton led were mostly farmersa and skilled workers. They knew little about military and the exspectations of a leader like Washinton. They lived in tents and huts but they were well supplied with guns and food cloth and ammunition. -
Battle of Bunkerhill
Happened during the siege of boston in the american revolution. The battle is named after bunkerhill that british used. The colonial forces retreated to Cambridge over Bunker Hill. -
Common Sense is published
A pamflit first anounomsly pubished but Thomas Paine. Opened the eyes of a lot of people about independence and freedom. A lot of loyalist then turned into Patriots and a lot of Patriots learned knew things. Inspired Thomas Jefferson with the Declation of Independence. -
Declaration of Independence is ratified
All the American colonys were no longer part of the British Empire. Inspired by Common Sense. 56 people signed. John Adams, Benjamin Franklin... "Believe me, dear Sir: there is not in the British empire a man who more cordially loves a union with Great Britain than I do. But, by the God that made me, I will cease to exist before I yield to a connection on such terms as the British Parliament propose; and in this, I think I speak the sentiments of America."

Battle of Long Island/Battle of Brooklyn
The Patriots tried to capture the Americans in Brooklyn. George Washinton reatreated at night. This movement took a few days. This was the first victory the British has won and the first time Washinton reatreated. -
Washington captures Hessians at Trenton, New Jersey
Hazerdous weather made it posible for Washinton to lead the Contentenle Army to Trenton. Hessians thought that Washington would never come because of it so they let there gaurd down. The Contenetle Army suffered many previous battles. -

Benjamin Franklin asked for help in the Ameican Resolition. France suplied them with gunds and gun poweder and french soldiers because they didnt like the British either -
Arrival of 30,000 British Troops in New York Harbor
30,000 British troops arrived in New York Harbor in August and joined those already under the control of General William Howe. American defeats followed at Long Island, Harlem Heights, and White Plains -
John Paul Jones captures Serapis
He was fighting battles in North Britain. One of them being against Serapis. He was fighting faster ships. The other ships had 72 guns. -
Washington Defeated at Brandywine
Was fought between the American army with George Washington and the British-Hessian army of with William Howe. The Brtisish won against the Americans and forced them to remove toward the rebel capital of Philadelphia. The date occurred near Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania during Howe's battle to take Philadelphia, -
Philadelphia is lost to British
The British invaded from the south in the September of 1777. The British first defeated the men at Brandywine then march to Philadelphia. General Howe was in control. Took the British 6 weeks to march to the Chesepeakbay embarkment point. -
American's win a Saratoga
The battles were fought 18 days off. Burgoyne surrendered most of his army to General Horatio Gates on October 17, 1777. This made the French beleive in the Americans. -
Articles of Confederation adopted
The second Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union. This was a new type of government. Didn't ensure that people in the United States would serve. Later replaced with the constotution. -
Washington's Winter at Valley Forge
Washingtons army camped on a hill witha good veiw of Philadelphia. They were there for the cold winter. It was good they were up high because they could look out for random British Attacks. Many people ditched and left. A lot of people had frostbite and were hungry. -
Washington captures Hessians at Trenton, New Jersey
The Continental Army had to reatreat across New Jersey because 90% of the men that were in Long Island were gone. 1400 Hessians were in New Jersey. The Continetal Army had 2400 now. -
France signs treaty of alliance with United States
A good devensive alliance for the Americans because they were Britains enemies. Had 13 atrticles. One of them being if war broke out then a army of both French men and American men would be created. -
Charleston, South Carolina falls to British
The British orginized an exspedition to capture South Carolina but was postponed a few times due to bad weather. Around 5000 troops led by Admiral Arbuthnot went by foot to Charlston. Another group went on boats loaded with cannons. -
Elizabeth Freeman sues Massachusetts for her freedom
Elizabeth Freeman was one of the first black ladys to win a freedom law suite. This act ended slavery in that state.

Battle of Yorktown
Proved to be the last big land battle of the American Revolutionary War. After Cornwallis' army surendered it prompted the British government eventually to negotiate an end to the problem. -
