During January, the South secedes. Right after Abe Lincoln was elected President, S. Carolina calls a state convention trying to remove themselves from the U.S. They believed that Abe Lincoln was wrong to free slaves. The South were dependent on slaves as they had a lot of agriculture. After S. Carolina seceded, Florida, Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas followed in their footsteps. The Confederate States were created with Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina also. -

Confederate Victory in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina in April 12-April 13. 80 Union soldiers fought against the 500 Confederate soldiers. This began the war. -

The Confederates won this battle in Manasas, Virginia. which caused them to believe thaat they were invincible. This was the first major land-based fight of the Civil War. -
Ulysses S. Grant
He was the head of the Army of Tennessee. In 1862, He was Victorious of Forts Henry and Donelson, Shiloh, and the capture of New Orleans which gained control over the Mississippi River. -
Battle of Antietam
During this battle, General Lee needs to re-supply his army so they decide to invade Maryland. This was the bloodiest single day of the war; almost 23,000 total casualties. This battle ended as a tactical draw. -
