Through a treaty, the USA purchased over 800000 square miles of land from France. The Constitution didn't specifically give federal government the ability to purchase land, but Thomas Jefferson figured the benefits of buying the land were greating than the consequences of defying the Constitution (in a way). -
Lowell's First Cotton Mill
The day and month are not necessarily accurate. I couldn't find the day or month. Lowell saw the machines and techniques in britain and made the first American loom in 1813. -

This prohibited slavery in the (former) Louisiana Territory. -

Put in place to supress people of color and give them less rights than whites with out making them slaves. -

This overrualed the Dred Scott Decision and provided a much broader definition of citizenship. -
Johnson's Impeachment
President Andrew Johnson didn't follow the Constitution so Congress tried to impeach him. Through bribes and such, though, he remained in office. -
Transcontinental Railroad Completed
This is the official completion date of the railroad that stretch across America. -
15th Amendment
Alows all races and ex-slaves to be able to vote. Only men were allowed because even white women were not allowed to vote yet. -
Standard Oil Formed
Rockefellor forms his Ohio based oil company. -
Carnegie Forms His Steel Company
Andrew Carnegie creates his steel company. Uses the Bessemer process. -
First Telephone Call
Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call to his assisstant. -
Lightbulb Invented
Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb. He gave a sort of "open house" to show off the new invention. -
Sherman Antitrust Act
Named for senator John Sherman, this act was put into order in order to prohibit trusts. -
The Gilded Age
Mark Twain dubbed these last years of the 19th century the Gilded Age.
