It was also known as the October March. It was one of the earliest and most significant events of the French Revolution. a crowd of women demanding bread for their families gathered other discontented Parisians, including men, and marched to Versailles. They got there soaked, because it was raining... They demanded to see "the Baker," "the Baker's wife," and "the Baker's boy". The King agreed to meet with some of the women and promised to distribute all the bread in Versailles to the crowd -
Execution of the King
In August 1792, the royal couple was arrested by the sans-cullottes and imprisoned. In November, evidence of Louis XVI’s counterrevolutionary intrigues with Austria and other foreign nations was discovered, and he was put on trial for treason by the National Convention. The next January, Louis was convicted and condemned to death by a narrow majority. On January 21, he walked steadfastly to the guillotine and was executed. -
