The 80's Inventions In Computer History

  • The Fax Machine

    The Fax Machine
    The Fax machine was used very commonly during the 1980's though it's origin of when it was created dates back much earlier in 1843 by Alexander Bain. This is a device that sends and receives printed pages or images over telephone lines by digitizing the material with an internal optical scanner and transmitting the information as electronic signals. This invention was cruel in helping sending information to others for it's time.
  • The Answering Machine

    The Answering Machine
    Back in the 1980s, an answering machine was your only hope if you weren’t around to catch a call. This was a system that serves as a telephone answering device. Messages or instructions prerecorded on tape are reproduced automatically when a telephone user's number is dialed. The answering device then actuates the recording head, which records any messages that the caller wishes to leave. This wonderful invention idea was created by the help of William Muller back in 1935.
  • The Floppy Disks

    The Floppy Disks
    Before there was “the cloud,” there was the floppy disk – a storage medium used to hold a limited amount of data. While convenient for transferring computer files, the biggest downside to the floppy disk was that it wasn’t always easy to determine which version was compatible with your PC. Plus, the initial formatting process could take hours to complete. This was made by IBM years earlier in 1971 but wasn't used as much till the 80's
  • The Polaroid Camera

    The Polaroid Camera
    Polaroid pictures were the only real option for instantly viewing your photos in the ‘80s. This was commonly used to capture the moments through picture. This invention was invented by a man named Edwin H. Land back in 1948.
  • The Pager

    The Pager
    Commonly referred to as “beepers,” pagers were the mobile devices of their time. These little gadgets clipped onto your belt and displayed a caller’s number across the screen when you were being “beeped” …and that’s about it. It was then up to you to find a pay phone in order to call back. This invention idea was invented by Al gross in the 1950's but not used as much til the 80's.
