  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    This was an American victory. Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott went and rode horses to tell everyone that the British were coming. They told militia, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock. This is were "the shot heard around the world" happened. While the British marched on Americans followed and took out a lot of them.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    The Battle of Bunker Hill was a British victory but they did have numbers on their side. The British had a 2-1 numbers advantage. Although the British won they realized that this wasn't going to be easy that it would be a hard fight.
  • Battle of Long Island

    Battle of Long Island
    The British sent a small force at the center of the American defense. While the Americans focused on this smaller attack, the main force of the British army attacked from the east nearly surrounding the Americans. Instead of surrendering Washington decided to retreat and try to escape. Instead of following Washington and his men they rested for the night. That is when Washington had his men make it across the East river to Manhattan, and they escaped. But the British got the victory.
  • Battle of Trenton and Princeton

    Battle of Trenton and Princeton
    Both were victories for America. In Trenton General Howe decided to cease operations for the winter so Washington sent his men over the Delaware River and caught the Hessians off guard. They killed 100 Hessians and captured over 900. At Princeton Washington's troops were almost trapped by a much larger army commanded by Cornwallis. Luckily the Americans killed 500 British troops and won. This reenergized the Americans for revolution.

    Battle of Saratoga
    The Battle of Saratoga was a huge victory for the Americans. The British forces that were sent to Bennington, Vermont were met by a large group of militia and surrendered. The battle of Saratoga was actually two separate battles fought nearly three weeks apart. This made France realize that the Americans could actually win so they joined sides and recognized the United States of America.
  • Battle of Vincennes

    Battle of Vincennes
    This was an American victory. General George Rodgers Clark took a militia of mainly Canadian volunteers and forced Henry hamilton to surrender. After the win a war party of Indians came and they captured four of them. George Rodgers Clark decided to tomahawk them to death then scalp them and trow them in the river.
  • Battle of the Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis

    Battle of the Bonhomme Richard vs. Serapis
    Captain John Paul Jones and his ship the Bonhomme Richard engaged with the British frigate the Serapis. Captain Pearson of the Serapis asked John Paul Jones "ave you struck" which meant do you surrender and John Paul Jones responded with " I have not yet begun to fight." John Paul Jones and his ship the Bonhomme Richard came back and won the fight.
  • Battle of Charleston

    Battle of Charleston
    This was the Americans biggest defeat. Major General Benjamin Lincoln surrendered to Lieutenant General Sir Henry clinton. With this victory the British captured more than 3,000 soldiers and a lot of equipment and only 250 were wounded or killed in the process.
  • Battle of Guilford Courthouse

    Battle of Guilford Courthouse
    Around 1,900 soldiers under Cornwallis went on the offensive against Greene's 4,400-4,500 Continental and militia troops. After around two hours Greene retreated and gave Cornwallis the tactical victory but it enabled him to keep his army intact.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    This was an American victory. Eventually Washington and the help of the French Cornwallis and his army was completely encircled at Yorktown, Virginia. After three weeks of non stop bombardment Cornwallis surrendered. This victory basically led to the Independence of America.
