    The Battle of the Alamo ended on March 6, 1836, and Santa Ana and the Mexican troops left no survivors.
  • Texas became an Independent state

  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Sam Houston's revenge for the Battle of the Alamo. Campbell (2018) explains Houston reminds his soldiers "remember the Alamo, remember the Alamo" (p. 139).
    Campbell (2018) explains. "after 18 minutes, the Texans had control of Santa Anna's camp" (p. 140).
    This was a very short battle and the Texians captured Santa Anna the next day.
  • Sam Houston was elected President of Texas

    Sam Houston was elected president of the Republic of Texas. According to Campbell (2018), "Smith and Austin were the only candidates until less than two weeks before the election; Sam Houston entered the race" (p. 145). Sam Houston won and beat Stephen F. Austin the father of Texas.
  • President of Texas Mirabeau Lamar constructed to move the capital

  • The French recognized Texas as a Republic

    Campbell (2018) explains the French Government, "in September 1839, signed a treaty of friendship and commerce that made it the first European nation to grant recognition to Texas" (p. 156). The French government was the first to recognize Texas as a Republic.
  • The Battle of the Neches

    President Lamar of the Republic of Texas ordered "an exterminating war" on Texas Indians. The Battle of the Neches forced most Cherokees to move from Texas to Indian Territory in the United States. Campbell (2018) p. 153.
  • The Battle of Plum Creek

    The Battle of Plum Creek
    According to Campbell (2018), "a band of five hundred Comanche warriors raided Victoria and Linnville killing settlers" (p. 155). Mirabeau B. Lamar was the president of The Republic of Texas, at that time.
  • Santa Fe Expedition

    President Lamar wanted to establish a trade route with the New Mexicans. This ended in disaster and Lamar's soldiers were imprisoned by the Mexicans. Carrol explains, "Although generally considered a failure, the expedition stimulated a renewal of interest in Texas within both the United States and Mexico and formed a basis for Texas's claim to the western territory".

  • Texans approves annexation

    Sam Houston was in his second term of presidency. The convention met in Austin the new capital of Texas. "Texans approve of the annexation by 4,254 to 267" (Campbell 2018 p. 168).
  • Texas is accepted into the United States

    "President James K. Polk signed the Texas Admission Act" (Campbell 2018 p. 169). Texas became a state, and was not a republic no more.
