Mexico's Independence
Mexico gains independence from Spain and at the same time Stephen Austin negotiated a contract with the new Mexican government to allow around 300 families to settle into the Brazos River. Under agreements, American settlers were to be Catholics, but Austin mainly brought in Christians from southern states. -
More settlers
More American settlers came into Texas. It was not long until the American settlers outnumbered the number of Mexicans in Texas. -

Statehood of Texas
Austin was sent to jail for declaring the statehood of Texas in the Mexican federation without the consent of the Mexican congress. He was eventually released in 1835. -
Santa Anna
Santa Anna became the dictator of Mexico and seek to crush rebellions in Texas and other areas. -
The first battle of the Texas revolution
Anglo residents of Gonzales, responded to Santa Anna’s demand that the cannons used to defense against Indians to be returned by discharging a cannon against the Mexican troops that were sent to reclaim the cannon. -

The American settlers created a provisional state government and a Texan army under Sam Houston -
The Raid
In December of 1835, Ben Milam along with Texas volunteers got rid of Mexican troops and settler around the Alamo. -
Santa Anna's response
In January, Santa Anna ordered a couple thousands of soldier to settle south of Rio Grande. -
Davy Crockett
Only a week later, Davy Crockett joins Bowie and Travis. -
James Bowie
James Bowie arrive at the Alamo planning to move every cannon out of the Alamo, but there was not enough time until the Mexican troops would arrive. -
William Travis
On this date, James Bowie and William Travis meet up to combine their troops to make a total of 140 men defending the Alamo. -
The siege of the Alamo
Santa Anna ordered around 3000 men to surround the Alamo. -
The letter
Colonel Travis sent a letter out saying that they'll never retreat or surrender and it's Victory or Death! -
Reinforcements
Troops from Gonzales joins the defenders, bringing the total number of troops at the Alamo to a total of 185. -
Texas' independence from Mexico
On this day, Texas' revolutionary government declares its independence from Mexico. -
The Alamo under attacked!
Early morning of March 6th, Santa Anna sent his troop to attack the Alamo.
Travis being able to fend off against the first two Mexican charge still was overwhelmed only an hour later, and the Alamo was taken over.
Santa Anna demand that there be no prisoners and all the men would die. Only the women and children were kept alive.
Several hundreds of Mexican soldiers die in that hour. -
"Remember the Alamo!"
Six weeks after the raid of the Alamo, Sam Houston responded to the attack with a sneak attack on Santa Anna and his troops at San Jacinto.
Shouting "Remember the Alamo!" Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna and gain independence from the Mexican government that day. -

Texas officially joined the Union as the 28th state.
