    Causes of the Battle of Gonzales
    American Gonzales colonists refused to give up a small cannon that was given in a settlement in 1831. Antonio López de Santa Anna government could easily make hostiles mad. Santa Anna had constructed Castañeda to use force of necessary and to avoid conflict if possible. (Month and day are not accurate but year is)

    This was the first military engagement during the Texas Revolution. It was fought by Gonzales, Texas. It was fought between Texas settlers and Mexican soldiers.
  • Battle of the Alamo

    Battle of the Alamo
    A 13 day siege between Texas volunteer soldiers and Mexican invaders. The Alamo only had 200 defenders, obviously outmatched, and were led by James Bowie and William Travis. The Mexican invaders were in thousands and were led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. The Mexican invaders won, but had taken a lot of casualties somewhere between 600-1,600 men.

    Texas militia led by Sam Houston launched a surprise attack against Santa Anna along the San Jacinto river. Hundreds of Mexicans, including General Santa Anna, were taken as prisoners.

    Two documents signed at Velasco by Santa Anna and David G. Burnet. The treaty made General Santa Anna withdraw his troops anywhere below the Rio Grande and not take arms against Texas.

  • Texas Annexation

    Texas Annexation
    Texas voluntarily asked to become a state in the U.S. and it became a state. Mexico had told the U.S. if they made Texas a state, they would declare war. Immediately after Texas became a state, Mexico declared war about where the border should be.
