The Sydney Yugoslav Travel Agency Bombing occurred in Haymarket, Sydney. The suspects, Croatian extremists, were targeting Yugoslavia travel agencies and diplomats. Grand Mosque Seizure
Around 100,000 pilgrims were waiting for the dawn prayer. Within minutes, hundreds of Islamic extremists, under Juhayman al-Otaybi’s control, a member of an influential family in Najdl, walked into the mosque with weapons. They took the pilgrims into hostage. Their purpose of holding hostage was to declare the arrival of Mahdi, their holy God, and those who resisted were killed. 130 people died and at least 200 were wounded. This was a domestic attack. -
Pan Am Flight 103
A flight from London to New York had a bomb hidden inside a cassette player. 31,000 feet above the air, in Lockerbie, UK, the bomb went off and all 259 passengers and 11 Lockerbie citizens on the ground were killed. Libyan citizen, Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, was convicted and sentenced to a lifetime in prison. (foreign) -
Attack on Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires
Around 2:45 p.m., a pickup truck containing explosives was driven by a suicide bomber. The driver drove the truck up onto the sidewalk and into the buliding, detonating the explosives. The blast killed 29 people and wounded 242 people. The attack was plotted by the Hezbollah terrorist group. Their motive was Israel's assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General. (foreign) -
Oklahoma City Bombing
In downtown Oklahoma City, a truck containing a bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. It killed 168 people and more than hundreds of people were injured. Suspects that set off the bombs were anti-government militant Timothy McVeigh and co-conspirator Terry Nichols. The mass murder was because of McVeigh's extremist ideologies and his anger. During a screening of the world cup, Al-Shabab, a group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, set off a series of bombs. They wanted to revenge because Uganda is in charge of the African Union peacekeeping mission and hosting a training camp for Somali soldiers. The bombing killed about 74 people. (domestic) -
French Train Shooting
On the train, an individual came out of the bathroom bare-chested, carrying an AK-47 assault weapon, a pistol and a boxcutter. When passengers tried to take down the man, he started firing and slashing them, injuring 4 people. The suspect Ayoub El-Khazzani, a 25-year-old Moroccan, denied any intent of terrorism.
