Alexander Graham Bell created this invention. This type of call could of taken place in the year 1914, however Alexander didn't advertise it till 1915. He waited the extra year as he promoted it in the Panama-Pacific Exposition. The first offical call was made to his assistant Thomas A. Watson. -
Fax machine
Alexander Bain got granted the first type of recognition for the invention of a fax machine in 1843. However, further adpations to the fax machine in 1929 by Rudolf Hell were made, making his brand of a fax a high competitor. Fax machines are still used today as a tool of communication. -
Direct-dial telephone
On the 10 of November, 1951 the first direct-dial telephone call was made. The call was between Mayor M. Leslie Downing and Mayor Frank Osborne discussing politics and making history. By the first call being successful it enabled this serivce all throughout America. -

Around this time an automatic car phone system was established. This system was called Mobile System A which was first launched in Sweden. The MTA phones were constructed from vacuum tubes and relays, having a weight of 40 kg. -

In 1973, the first moblie phone was shown how to be used by Dr Martin Cooper of Motorola. The moblie phone during this time had a weight of 1 kg. Moblie phones were a further development on radiophones which were heavily used during the Second World War. -

VOIP stands for Voice over Internet protocol. This is a service that allows individuals to make a phone call over the internet. It dates back to 1982 introducing many other furturistic services such as Skype. An interesting fact about VOIP is "It is predicted that by the end of 2009 there will be 256 million users of VOIP around the world". -
Modern mobile phone and Smart phone
The modern moblie phone is an adpation of the cell phone. The adpation included more futuristc services such as text messaging, email and Internet access. The apperance of a modern moblie phone has also changed over time becoming lighter in weight and thinner in width. Than in 1992 a further adpation on the modern moblie was the Smart phone. The Smart phone is more like a computer with access to more features and connectivity to the world. The first creation of the smart phone was the IBM Simon.
