Formation and Information
The TTP is not a single group, but 13 groups that have come together. Formed in the December of 2007 by Baitullah Mahsud, their goals are to resist against the Pakistani state in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, enforce their interpretation of sharia, and unite against Western forces in Pakistan. The TTP is not directly connected with the Afghan Taliban and maintains closer ties with al-Qaida. -
Attack on the Weak
The TTP claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing on the largest humanitarian organization in the world that addresses hunger, the UN's World Food Program located in Islamabad. The WFP provides food to around 90 million people a year; 58 million of these are children. The attack caused the death of five people. -
Tragedy at Chapman
The TTP along with the Afghan Taliban killed 7 CIA officers and one officer of Jordan's intelligence agency in an attack on Camp Chapman, a CIA base in Afghanistan. The TTP released a video of Hakimullah Mehsud sitting beside the suicide bomber claiming that the attack was in retaliation for the drone strikes that caused the death of TTP founder Baitullah Mehsud, which left Hakimullah as chief. -
Times Square Incedent
The TTP claimed responsibility for the attempted car bombing in Times Square in a video on YouTube. The group rigged a dark blue SUV with exploses, ignited the bomb and left. Two street vendors noticed smoke coming from the car and called a police officer to the scene. The bomb was disarmed before any damage was done. -
"Those Who Protect"
The Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing at of an army compound in Mardan that killed at least 31. Reportedly, the attacker was a teenage boy dressed in a school uniform to gain access. A spokesperson for the organization said that the attack was in response to the U.S. drone attacks in the FATA's. He also threatened more attacks against "those who protect the Americans." -
Mourners Become the Mourned
The TTP claimed responsibility of a suicide bombing on a funeral procession in Peshawar. The procession was mainly made up of anti-Taliban militants. A spokesman said that the militants had allied themselves with the Pakistani government and the U.S. 15 militants died in the blast. -
Attack on Urs
Two suicide bombers attacked a Sufi shrine in Pakistan. The attack occured while thousands of disciples were gathered at the shrine for the Urs celebration. The merciless attack killed over fifty people and left 120 wounded. They attacked this shrine because the TTP disagrees religiously with Sufism. -
School Bus Shooting
Five TTP militants with heavy firepower attacked a school bus. They killed the driver, four young boys, and wounded two seven-year-old girls. They committed this horrific attack because they were from a pro-Pakistan tribe. -
Merciless Execution of 22
The TTP forced 22 Shiites from a bus and executed them in the Mansehra District (a district in the Khyber Province). -
Shooting of Malala Yousafzai
Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan admits to the shooting of young activist blogger, Malala Yousafzai and two other schoolgirls. A TTP spokesman commented "whom so ever leads a campaign against Islam and sharia is ordered to be killed by shariah." He also stated that it is "not just allowed... but obligatory in Islam" to kill someone involve in a campaign against Sharia.
