Technology Use Progression in the 1940s

  • The First Microwave

    The First Microwave
The first microwave was invented by a Raytheon Corporation engineer by the name of Dr. Percy Spencer. While working, Dr. Spencer realized that a magnetron vacuum tube used in radar technology became extremely hot during operation. And it even had the ability to cook certain foods. Two years later the first microwave sold for a staggering $5,000 (Over $52,000 in today's money).
  • ENIAC

    ENIAC
The Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer (ENIAC) was the first programmable computer. It was constructed by John Presper and John Mauchly Eckert to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army.
  • Polaroid Land Camera Model 95

    Polaroid Land Camera Model 95
The Polaroid Land Camera Model 95 designed by Edwin H. Land was the first camera with the ability to take pictures and automatically print them within one minute. This camera opened a new door to the world of photography.
  • The First Transistor

    The First Transistor
William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain designed the first transistor known as a point-contact transistor. William Shockley introduced the bipolar junction transistor a year later, marking the beginning of the widespread use of transistors. Transistors are vital in electronic devices in order to amplify or switch electrical signals or power.
