Photoshop
Photoshop is released. An early version was developed in 1987 by Thomas Knoll, and his brother John saw a use for the program in visual effects. Photoshop was used for image editing in the film "The Abyss." Adobe bought the license for Photoshop in 1989 and released the final product in February of 1990. -

The Joint Photographic Expert Group (JPEG) began developing a set of standardized rules for digital images in 1986, and in 1992 they settled on what would from then on be called the .jpg file. -

Nvidia GeForce 256
A new approach to computing graphics in computers was to dedicate an entire processor to rendering video, instead of having the CPU render it along with performing its other functions. The Nvidia GeForce 256 is considered the first consumer GPU, and it was released in 1999.
